temp gauge question

My 70 gauge doesnt work. Didnt work since I owned the thing. So I pulled up the info on here, and got started. First ran a new wire from sending unit to the gauge and checked power to the gauge. Gauge read all hot. PUt a new sending unit on and the same happened. Switched the wires and it went cold, then as the truck warmed up it went colder.... Only thing I can come up with is a new gauge?

whaddya think?
