Not sure of your motor but your fuel pump diaphram could be leaking or your carb could be leaking. Oil shouldn't smell like gas, you have real problem. I heard about a electric fuel pump that stayed on and hydrolocked a motor on a very expensive show car. Not trying to scare you but...

Probably blow-by from worn out piston rings.

Ditto, had the same thing happen in my blazer some 25 years ago.

I got the same problem in my T.B. injected 454. Plus I burn about a quart every 2-3 weeks.I cant think of any thing else but worn rings either. Thats about the only way the gas could get in the crank case is past the rings.

well as far as i know motor was never really beat up on is a 383 it was getting flooded at first fix that now the timing is off could that have something to with it oh and also if i may add i have not done a tune up on it so if that explains anything

If it was flooding @ some point, gas more than likely has gotten in to the crankcase. It's not the end of the world but it's not a good situation either. An oil change ASAP is in order. It's not good practice to continue operation of the engines internals w/diluted lubrication abilities.

If the situation returns, then I would start digging to the motors condition further (blow by/poor ring seal, carb leaks, fuel pump, etc....).

ive had this happen to me a few times and its always been a bad fuel pump.. change it and do a oil and filter and it should go away. This has always been on a carbueratored motor
