HELP!! My thingy is rattlin'.....
I've noticed a very discrete rattle near the rearend of the truck...i crawled up under there yesterday (along with my 8-year old) to try and see if I could find the source of the noise. Well, the second thing HE checked was it!! I thanked him dearly for his help, making him feel great about helping me.
Now, my question is this...how do you, or is there a way, to tighten this "C" shaped "clamp" that is around the front section of the leaf springs?? I believe this to be the source of my rattle. Pic below... http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0687.jpg |
Re: HELP!! My thingy is rattlin'.....
seems like you could heatit with a torch and bend it in and down

Re: HELP!! My thingy is rattlin'.....
I'd stay away from the torch. There's rubber under there. They make "square" u-bolts that go over the top of the leaf springs to hold the axle on. There should be some slightly smaller ones at your local hardware store. I'd pull the old clamps off and use those.

Re: HELP!! My thingy is rattlin'.....
Stay away from the heat as DK mentioned.....
You can use a larger C-clamp to re-tighten, Put the clamp on the inner edge of the top ears as the clamp is shown; http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...Tightening.jpg Tighten the clamp as much as possible then whack the top of the clamp a couple times with a larger hammer, Re-tighten the clamp a little more and whack again. Once you get the top two ears tightened flip the clamp sideways (the width of the spring) then tighten and whack the screw end of the clamp to tighten the sides back up..... |

I used duct tape and wrapped it a few times.
