deleating the seams between the door jam and the floor???
Hey guys,
I have picked up a new cab to throw into my truck and when i pulled the carpet and that flimsy aluminum trim i found some pretty flaky rust caught behind the weather stripping seam. after i fix everything i was thinking about grinding that seam right off so that any water will run out right under the door. do you think it would be possible to relocate the weather stripping onto the bottom of the door? I know that it sounds a bit crazy but this truck is going to see some action off road and it just doesn't seem right to fix the rust but not resolve the original problem. i will try to snap some photos tomorrow. |

I think some street rod custom bodies do this, but I wonder about water wicking back up around the bottom of the door.

Bedliner on the floor is the way to go if you don't want the rust. You could also find the low point and drill a hole to allow water to drain. If you take that fin out you will have nothing to hold the weather stripping and it will let a lot of sound in, as well it might cause some door alignment issues. Bedliner is cheaper than replacing the floor in a few years.

bedlined floor is definitly in the plans!
as for road noise, i run straight pipes off of my big block so i'm hearing 454 anyways unless the stereo is CRANKED. I worry about drilling drainage holes though. I was thinking that they may be the first place to rust out. is there any way that i can protect them more so than normal, or is it a non-issue if im diligent about hosing the truck down? They use salt on the roads up here. |

Well I would suggest using bedliner both inside and outside the cab, drill the holes first then go to town with the bedliner I think it would outlast you.
