Re: spindles spindles spindles

Belltech, McGaughy's, CPP, Western Chassis, are all good spindles.

Make sure you measure the width of your rotors before you order.
They make 2 different spindles for 73-87 trucks.
HD 1.25" wide rotors and LD 1" wide rotors.

I like Belltech spindles best.

Definitely check the rotor thickness. I now have one set of McGaughy spindles for the 1inch rotor sitting in a box. My truck has 1.25 rotors! S&*%! Live and measure!!!

I have Belltech's but I have used others. Actually I haven't had any problems with any of them. I had to do a lot more grinding on the Belltech's than any others to get 15" wheels to fit. I don't see buying new ones if the ones you have are working for you.

What do you grind? My lower A-arms are in the way of the rim but I don't get how I can fix this by grinding the spindle???

Define "see a difference" in spindles with yours vs. your friends. Seems interesting.

Rotors are cheap. Buy a new set of rotors. I have 1 in now but my new spindles are 1.25 and will upgrade rotors then.

You have to grind the a-arm to cure that. You can take off enough to clear, just don't get into the radius. Look where it's rubbing and start removing a little at a time till it clears. You will have to check it full lock to lock. It's a pain taking the wheel on and off, but take your time. Mine like a lot of others running 15" wheels actually rubbed the spindle itself where the caliper mates up also, but there is plenty of material there to remove.

You also have to change the calipers and all the bearings.

I found a pic of my a-arm. I had to remove a lot to clear my old Americans, but I'm not into the radius. Plenty of miles no problems. Pic is cell phone but you can get the idea.

The 2.5" spindles are the way to go. The 3" ones is where you may(make that will) need to grind on the lower contol arm for 15x8 rally wheels which is not a pretty thing. Don't go hog wild with lowering springs or you will have ground clearance issues too.

I used to work for summit..When a manufacturer has a overrun summit or jegs buys the extra and says its theit "private label". In reality it can change month to month depending on the market. I opened up a set on "summit" sbc heads and they were Dart Iron Eagles, even had the paperwork from dart with them! My spindles were western and got em for 180 bucks with my summit bucks. They ride great and have no issues:metal:
