new heads

Well i just picked up some performer rpm heads foor my small block, they are 70 cc, they shold work welll with my 284 2h cam and rpm intake

bigjimzlll 04-13-2003 11:35 PM

very nice choice, what C/R are you running?

Dean23 04-13-2003 11:36 PM

comp should be between 9.5& 9.7 nothing to radical.

bigjimzlll 04-13-2003 11:42 PM

sorry for all the questions, but what cam is that you listed? if it has 284 duration it might be a litle large for 9.5-1 CR..whats it at .050?

Dean23 04-16-2003 12:11 AM

at .50 it is 224 on the intake and 234 exhaust. im right in the right area for comp. for the cam. it suggests between 9.5 and 10.5. i figure my engine is closer to 9.6 or 9.7.

bigjimzlll 04-16-2003 12:14 AM

perfect...

guypm 04-16-2003 05:43 AM

I also have the performer prm heads/intake. Ive got the comp 280 magnum cam/pro form roller rockers(1.5). Msd 6a, Holley 750 dpumper. The motor is a stock 350 from scoggins dickey in Lubbock,Tx. I really like mine. Id like to run it at the strip one day, but I cant hook up. Way too much spin and no traction. Im running a 700r4/3.73 open. When I get a lot more dough, id like to get some slicks and a posi. Maybe then It'll hook up. Enjoy yourself, I've been happy with mine.

what are your hp #'s with your engine guypm?????. Ithink I am going to run 4:10's in my truck.

lukecp 04-16-2003 08:51 PM

Edelbrock claims a 350 chevy with their RPM heads, intake manifold, 750 carb, and RPM cam (292 duration, .5-something lift) makes 420 horsepower. So, you should around the 400 hp mark :D

Dean23 04-16-2003 09:05 PM

I guess a 400 horse small block is a good starting point for my first hotrod.

crazy longhorn 04-16-2003 09:11 PM

You will like the Edelbrock heads.... nice tork & throttle responce for street driving. :burnout: crazyL

Dean23 04-16-2003 09:17 PM

yeah I cant wait to hear it run......I bought a gear drive for it as well. 284 cam, flattops, crane true rollerrockers edelbrock rpm heads rpm intake soon to get my carb as well and edelbrock

Oborny71 04-16-2003 09:48 PM

Yeah, I just got new heads for my 355 a few weeks ago, and i ordered the rest of the goodies to go with it this week. I got AFRs 190 heads- expensive but i know it will be well worth it. to go with it i got a comp280 magnum, roller rockers, new pushrods, and a 2500 stall converter. the rest of the motor consists of a performer intake, edelbrock 750 carb, 1 5/8 headers, 2 1/2 exhuust, TH350tranny, 3.73 gears, and 295/50/15. I 'm hoping for mid to low 13s, what do you all think?

Dean23 04-16-2003 09:59 PM

I hope 400hp can get my truck into the low 13's with a 700r4 and 4.10's

bigjimzlll 04-16-2003 10:27 PM

Oborny...lose that performer intake...with thiiose heads and cam, the motor will want to breathe well past 5500rpm. yes 400(true)HP can get you into the mid 13s..13.4 to be exact..but my truck is kind of light..3675lbs..

guypm 04-17-2003 06:04 AM

dont know what hp im running yet. gonna get it on the dyno one of these days though. ive seen a little over 6000 on the factory tach. i dont know how accurate the tach is. id love to be in the 13's one day. got a friend who has a high 11/low 12 second 72 truck that hooks up real good with coilovers in back.

Oborny71 04-17-2003 08:08 AM

yes, i need to swap to the performer RPM intake, but right now with all the stuff i've been buying, i'm kinda short on cash (arn't we all!) Hey bigjimzlll, why does your truck weigh only 3675? I have a shortbox, and am wondering what you did to get the weight down?

bigjimzlll 04-17-2003 07:14 PM

no bumpers..plastic fuel cell..aluminum wheels..aluminum waterpump and intake and pulleys light weight springs..no power anything..lol
