Thinking of going from a 6.0 to 6.6

I have a chance at getting a Duramax and Allision transmission from a truck for free. All it is, is the engine and trans. I was told that the #3 cylinder needs to be resleeved. I was wondering if it would be worth the effort to take it and rebuild it and swap from my 6.0 gas to the 6.6 duramax, or should I just pass on the idea?

I know I would need to get a wiring harness for under the hood, and resleeve the motor. I should be able to reuse my tank. What else would need to be done, inorder to make is crazy idea work?

Sounds like it would be more money and more time than what its worth. Just go buy a truck with a d-max in it. And you cant reuse the tanks, At least the sending units are different. Mounts, exhaust, driveshafts, control modules, wiring harnesses, transfercase, intercooler, turbo piping, radiator...etc. etc. Theres alot needed to do this swap. Buyin all the parts listed will add up fast, that and if you are pulling the motor apart and havin it sleeved... more money... Not to mention all the time to swap everything then hope you have it right.

Even with a running engine this would be a HUGE undertaking, Heres some other things you will need.....

Intercooler, piping & boots
Radiator, Fan & shroud
Fuel lines & cooler
Transmission cooler lines
Engine control module
Transmission control module
Throttle pedal
Wiring harness
Drive shaft(s)
Battery trays & battery cables
A/C hoses
Exhaust
And a bunch of other stuff Im forgetting.

Rebuilding a duramax is expensive.....injectors alone list for $300 a peice.

I'd have to agree. There is too much that would need to change and I'm not even sure the D-max is worth having a sleeve put in.

Would probably be easier to swap in an older cummins. I'd only do though if you want something unique.

Thank you all for your responses. I originally wanted to buy a diesel cc, but the wife about had a fit when she found out how much they go for, hence the reason I have the 6.0. I figured that it would be more trouble then it was worth, but I thought that I would run the crazy idea to all of your guys and see where it lands. Yes I was thinking of doing a cummins swap as well, but I think I should just sell this truck and find one already swapped in.

Thanks again guys.
