Re: Wood Bed Floor install questions
I did my own floor on my 62K10 years ago. Table saw, Dado Blade ( optional ) and patience goes a long way. Did mine in Maple cause I could get the wood cheap. I believe in my books they reference Southern Pine as the essence of wood used in factory installations. They claim the wood is a full inch thick, 5/4's to woodworking folks.

Re: Wood Bed Floor install questions
Your answer lies within, my friend. if your pretty handy then yes you could go to a lumber yard and buy the material, cut it as needed and install it. it would look as good as your abilities.
Getting an aftermarket kit will take most of the labor out of the equation. you take it out of the crate whne you get it, lightly sand it, stain as you like, finish as you like and put it in place, done. it really depends on what is most important to you, money or time. Good luck and if you do decide to buy the kit, the vendors here will treat you right! |

If it's your first time, I'd get the boards and strips from Mar-K or another vendor and do it that way.
I'm no artist, but here's some Mar-K oak and stainless strips in my '67: |
Re: Wood Bed Floor install questions
A local guy redid his fleetside with the mar-k kit... and one of his car club buddies runs a cabinet shop... told him he couldn't get the material any cheaper and cut it to match.
mar-k has been around a good while and I've read many times about their great service and making things right as quickly as possible on the rare occasion that there is an issue with an order. If I ever re-do my bed, that is who I will call. -W |
Re: Wood Bed Floor install questions
Mar-K ran a deal last March (I think) with 10% off and free shipping. I had my doubts that they'd ship 8-foot wood to the east coast for free, but they did! If you can wait until spring, maybe they'll run it again...
