Picked up this 86 for $400. mufflers/ tail pipe laying in the bed when i saw it on the side of the road, needs some interior work. typical flaking paint. Got the rust sanded down and the encapulator applied to the roof and hood. tuned up the ole ticker and she pulls hard. This truck was expensive. I only paid 15.00 for my Suburban... Inflation i guess.

Nice score. What are your plans for it?

Well, I am in a pickle with that comment myself. In my mind I see a really nice paint job with some Eagle alloy 101 series rims and new upholstery (seat) and new dash pad. But, on the other hand I do use my trucks alot to haul stuff. So I am standing at a fork in the road. Might just fix it up nice and spray liner the bed. that would fix my problem. I really want another late 80's early 90's dually 3x3 cab... I miss that truck. Just dont need a 454. When I found this truck, I had looked at a ton of them. but they all had the BB. I wanted a truck that has the 350/t400 4:11 rear end. This one had all including a fairly straight body.

I live in an area where we only get a short summer and its been wet out. August is about it for me to have any dry weather. I have to do this outside mostly and so have been working on other projects... Did buy a set of sanding blocks, paint gun set and descant filter system. They should be here in a week or two. Right now its being used as a storage bin for all the things in the garage that have been displaced by the truck.

Bought the paint yesterday and my son talked me into a old miltary vehicle color. I am thinking he is owner of the truck since he seems to be calling the shots on this build...
LOL Wonder if he has any plans to help pay for the upgrades... Really have enjoyed us working together on this project and seeing him grow and become capable with his shop skills along the journey.. Thats what this has been about the wholetime anyway... 8)

Finally got some paint on the ole Grouch... Between all the other projects I am glad this part done.. Now just to put the bling back on and "Rhino" line the bed and rock guards... Oh and figure out something for the wheels.. My Son wants black wagon wheels... Wasn't sure of the Army Jeep color, but I think it will grow on me once its all together.

I think it looks pretty cool that color seems to work well on a big 3/4 ton truck. I agree with your son i think some black rims would look killer on there. I was going to get a set of the Black Rock 950-Series Lobo Wheels for my 76 C20 they even come with black center caps.

Yeah I am gonna keep the stock chrome on the truck, looking at powder coating the wagon wheels black and probably have chrome lug nuts and center caps.. Do you know how the C-20 emblem in front of the mirror on the fender attach? I accidentaly broke what ever holds the emblem on the back side of fender and couldnt find what it was...

Web searched the black rocks and those look awesome... Also thought about trying that rat rod red that they use on the ole rusty rods and painting just the rims red... May try that with my stock Chevy rims and just see what it looks like...

The emblems have two studs on the back that go through the fender and are held on with two nuts. LMC just refers to them as emblem nuts in their catalogs. I have never owned a truck where the previous owner had not broken the emblems off and just put them back on with mounting tape.

I am truely greatful for the Autoparts store in our town. They have a paint and body section in the other half of the building and on one rack they have tons or body clips and bolts and such and it has saved my hide because after two years I am realizing that I have lost several bolts/nuts and plactic clips that hold the trim etc on the body.... I guess dumping them in an old coffee can with a lid just doesnt secure everything for more than 6mos...
