classic 2500??

Im looking at buying a gmc classic 2500. 4x4. auto. regular cab. 8ft bed. only 57,000 miles on it.

Ive never hear of a classic 2500. it looks like the pre-99 body style. does anyone know what kind of suspension this uses or just any info on this style of truck.

thanks

You will find a lot of info in the 1988-1998 forum. The truck you are looking at is the old body made till 2000. I just bought a 1998 3/4 tom 4x4 and it is a beast. What year are you looking at? Sometime around 1996 the 2500's went from a 6-lug to a more heavy duty 8-lug. Here is mine:

The reason they call it a "classic" is they made both the new body style and the old body style in 2000. So they call the older body style the classic....Same thing happened in 2007.

You will find the most info about the truck in the 88-98 forum. GM carried over the higher GVWR 2500 and 3500s as the GMT400 (88-98) body style through 2000. All components are the same as the older style, nothing new was added. Same goes with the 2007 "classic" trucks, and the 88-91 Suburbans/Crew cabs that were held over from the 73-87 body style when the 88-98 body was introduced.
The suspension is the standard torsion bar IFS front, leaf rear. Engine could be 5.7 vortec, 454, or the 6.5 diesel. 4L80e auto. What do you want to know about it?

The year had nothing to do with 6 lug to 8 lug, but rather the GVWR, the 6 lug 2500s were simply a lighter GVWR, just barely above that of a "heavy half" F44 1500.

Yep, you will want to order the suspension for an 88-98 model K2500, those transition years will get you sometimes. :chevy:
