What about seatbelts with shoulder straps that don't look out of
place? Just wondering what installs into these trucks without much effort

Man - Poor 'lil Chevy Truck :whine: Hope the driver wasn't hurt.
I have a factory set of shoulder harness belts in my '71. They aren't the retractable type though.

Story was that some kids stole the truck and flipped it...

Here's a pic of my truck, as it was from the previous owner.

I tried to find the original post from another board that I got it from,
but my condolences if you're reading this and saying, "hey that's my truck!"

Roberty - If you're inclined to wear seat belts, do you additionally use the shoulder belts? Or are the non-retractable kind a hassle?

Wes, thanks for the link, it's good to know repro's are available if all else fails. I haven't seen them anywhere else.

Here are the S10 belts in my truck

krue 04-16-2003 04:18 AM

I am putting S-10 belts in my truck, but I can't get the buckles to stick out far enough out of the original seat to be of any use. What did you have to do to get around that, Bill72BB?

Bill72BB 04-16-2003 10:58 AM

Krue;
I had to make a bracket on both sides which mounted the belts 5" out on the driver side and 4 " on the passenger side .

I've got a 4-point RCI harness in mine. With a set of EVO racing seats. Set's nice and low now, and very safe!

This outfit could probably make original looking also.

The non retractable type are a little more hassle - I wanted them because I'm building a stock type resto on my '71 and wanted to keep it as stock as possible. The only concessions I'm making are the wheels (later model truck rallies) and the radio. If I was doing any other truck I would probably try a later model (mid 80's maybe) retractable type belts.

I was thinking of this setup in the rear and two of them up front for my Burb project

Thanx Bill,
that's pretty much the conclusion I had come to, I just wanted to make sure.

WOW! I hope the driver/passengers were ok, and that poor truck. However, you can see how sturdy the older thicker guage steel is.

Since my truck will soon be a daily driver, I will be installing a set of seats from a '99-02 Silverado that have the seat belts integrated into the seats. The seats will be much more comfy than any bench seat, plus I get the added bonus of a shoulder harness, all with little modification.
