1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know if they make replacement vents for the original in dash air conditioning trucks? The vents in my truck are in decent shape, but I'd like to purchase new ones along with new a/c knobs which were stolen years back. Here is the peice I'm refering to for reference(Not mine, but same). Mainly just want the actual vents, not the whole peice, but not sure if that's available. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
No one makes them. there would be a rush on them if someone did.

Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
Damn I was afraid of that. I suppose I'll just have to carefully clean mine up the best I can.

I think the vents could be rechromed ???? then the center piece could be repainted. here is what mine look like...... Attachment 819053 |
Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
I think that's probably the best way to go. I'll have to look into getting them rechromed. I wonder if there are any knobs available out there that resemble the originals. Mine are missing.

Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
Are the knobs not Impala based? Seems everything else is.

Thanks for the info guys! I think between getting the vents rechromed and ordering the Impala knobs, I should be in good shape. I appreciate all the info.

Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
I was at the California Hot Rod reunion this past weekend, and there was a guy selling a factory A/C set-up from a '65 for $200. It was complete from the firewall to the dash, just missing the compressor and mount, condensor, and the lines. The dash bezel was perfect, and I tired to get him to sell me just that by itself, but he knew what he had. He was a really cool guy, and his price for what was there was more than fair.

Man that was a steal, I have heard of the dash piece only selling for $300.00 and the ashtray for $300.00 not counting the other factory air stuff... |
Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
Kieth-
If I didn't already have that stuff, I would have bought it myself. He didn't have the ashtray, though. That is a really hard to find part. I always laugh when I tell people the story about how I bought my ashtray for $200 and they threw the rest of the truck in for free! When I went to go look at my '64, I looked in the window and saw the A/C vents, and when I opened the door and saw the ashtray, I shut the door real quick. I thought it was too good to be true. When the guy started talking down the price without any haggling at all from me, I finally reached out and shook his hand and sealed the deal. It was maybe one of the best car bargains I have ever had. |
Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
If i remember correctly, those round vents aren't steel, but plastic. The center one was steel. I removed mine and just shot 'em with some rattle
can chrome. |

bump.
I'm not really a fan of the factory center bezel/vents. Has anyone fabbed up their own vents (weld in delete panels and add vents ) where the ashtray and heater controls are?? If so, some pics would be great. I am considering doing this, as you would end up with a flush dash and cleaner look. |
Re: 1965 Factory C-10 A/C Question
I just have a question for y'all. What does the vent hose hook up behind the in dash vents

The hoses for it don't hook up behind the vents. There is a difuser box or vent work behind it that curves to the right and then down, right past the knobs, and into the unit under the dash. I am hooking mine up with Vintage air, so I may fab this portion so that it does hook up to hoses and then I can sell the rest to someone and not waste it. In the end, I'm only using the vent and everything else from Vintage air and their knobs that are really close. Here's someone elses picture of it.
