Rear End Question

I was looking on Cl and ran across a 12 bolt rear end from a 67-72 pickup. Its has 6 lugs and 3:73 gears. My question is will it be a direct swap for a 62 SWB?
Thanks in advance

Re: Rear End Question

It will be close but not a 100% bolt in swap. The trailing arm mounts are slightly narrower than what is needed for your '62. Then the panhard bar mounts differently on the '67-'72. You could cut and weld the panhard bar mount from your '62 rear end to the '67-'72 rear end. Or you could use the shorter '65-'72 panhard bar, but you will need to put a slight bend in the end that bolts to the frame.

Re: Rear End Question

Sorry to say, but you aren't going to find 3.73 gears for the rear end in your truck. The only aftermarket gears available are 3.38, made by Yukon Gear and Axle. I think they are still available. If you could find a '63 or '64 12 bolt, the panhard bar will be a direct bolt up, and I have heard that the trailing arms have enough side to side movement to bolt up.
