Just drug one home...

Well, more like hired a roll back to drop it off.

This "beauty" has been sitting since 1997 less than a mile from home. Bought 2 truck loads of old Chevy parts from the guy yesterday and this truck followed me home too.

Too rough to fix (well, I guess anything is fixable) but I have 8 projects now so this one is getting parted out. I hate to do it but I'm betting the bottom is worse than the top. If parted, every useable piece will find new homes so nothing will go to waste.

I haven't had time to really look it over yet but I know it's a 1970 CST, had a 400 but now I think it's s 283. Ran when parked (yeh, I love that saying) ;)

Has 3 speed on column and being a CST, has lots of the fancy goodies. Has the old gas scent to it just standing next to it like a bad case of body odor. :smoke:

Hey, anyone want the camper top? Wanna know how to make this truck look 50% better? Remove that top!

Bonus is the bed floor was done in diamond plate and it matches the pattern of my wrecker restoration! How I went nuts searching for some of that. I now have all the diamond plate I need and more! :metal:

Bet it was nice when he parked it. Must have been a real nice truck in it's day.

Well, here it is:

Some good stuff there. Ran when parked is a useful description if taken properly. It indicates no promises, yet let's us know:1-that the seller knows the history,2-that it's not a blown motor that would be rebuildable,3-that the rear, transmission, steering was all functional. It was a running vehicle at the time, not parked because it had a major problem. It beats the heck out of,"I don't know nothing about it" which leaves you wondering if you're wasting your time pulling the motor and tearing it down just to find catastrophic damage.

.....or, "Just needs a batt-ry".

I don't know how many times I've heard that line, about a vehicle that has obviously been sitting for "a while"...years, maybe...and the owner intends to keep and restore. Restore is a subjective term, in those cases because it usually means that it will get a battery, some fresh gas and then junked, because the block is cracked or worse.

But, for PA, it looks like it's in good shape...at least what shows.

Had a chance to go through it a bit. Found some nice surprises too.

Label on glove indicates it a had/has a posi rear! I will pull the cover today to make sure and to figure out gear ratio. If it's a good one, it will go under my stepside.

Once I got the junk off the front seat, I found it to be in nice condition. The only bad thing is at the very top of the seat, a few springs poked holes into the cover but the rest is nice. ;)

Inner grill looks perfect. Fancy door panels look perfect!!! Nice headliner. Has all tinted glass. Engine turns out to be a 307 (boohoo) but was a 400 big block. There's even (1) T-3 headlight. :) Since it had a big block, I'm hoping the engine towers are still there.

Box looks decent too. Wood floor is still under the diamond plate. I may be using this box on my other truck. Hoping to save the cab but it's not looking too good so far.

Hood, doors, fenders, rad support, tail gate and bumpers are junk as is the gas tank. Frame is rusty but I see no rot yet. Rear trailing arms look good. Most of the outer trim looks restorable.

Judging by the seat and beautiful black carpet found under the floor mats, I'd say this truck must have been a looker when it was parked! Sitting there since 1997 killed it however.

Here's the options:

B85 Body side moldings
DG4 W/C mirror-JR-LH-RH
F59 Front stabilizer
G50 Heavy duty rear spring
L47 400 engine
U08 Dual horn
VF1 chrome rear bumper
Z84 Custom sport truck
600 Black vinyl trim
A11 Tinted glass
B93 Door edge guards
E81 Pickup box floor
F60 H.D. front springs
G80 Rear positrac axle
P01 Wheel covers
U63 Push button radio
Z53 Ammeter-Oil Gauge
514 Light Red

Kind of odd that with all the extra's, no power steering, no power brakes and a 3 speed on column was ordered. ?

it does have the big block stands.....also the big block shroud. i've been trying to buy it for a few years, was told he couldn't sell it because he didn't have anywhere to store the oil tank he had in the back :waah:

Yeh, the oil tank. I had to help him move it.

I guess the stars were in perfect alignment that I was able to get the truck. I bought a ton of parts off him too.

Only bummer so far is someone swapped the posi out. :waah: That would have went right in my stepside.

One of the highlights of the parts lot was a dual quad intake with carbs & some linkage from a 1964 Buick Nail head. I'm researching prices on it now and it's looking real GOOD! Once I clean it up, I'll ebay it and see what it brings but similar ones I've found sell for $600-$900 or so. One guy has one for $1,700! :metal:
