Relocated fuel tank

I have a 1971 Chevrolet C-10 with the stock fuel tank mounted behind the bench seat. I would like to remove the stock tank (for added cargo space, to get rid of the sloshing should when driving, to eliminate the fuel smell in the cabin, etc.) and install a new fuel tank somewhere under the bed.

1. I've hear of guys using a stock fuel tank from a Surburban ... if so, does anyone know:
- Where does it mount?
- Where does the fuel filler neck/cap exit?
- What year/model of Surburban is the tank from?
- Any special mods required to install the tank?

2. Is there a good aftermarket fuel tank that guys have used successfully when mounted under the bed. If so:
- What brand/model of tank
- Where does the fuel filler neck/cap exit?
- Any special mods required to install the tank?

Hey Kiwi, There is lots of info on the forum regarding this. I actually decided to go with a Boyd Welding aluminum tank. He makes some specifically for our truck and the quality is great. I had it powder coated as not to corrode/oxidize in this FL weather. Here is a link to the thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=362307

I'm taking the route to exit the filler neck out the side of the bed like a late model vehicle. This requires to trim some out of the bed floor and bed side for the filler neck, weld a box around to protect and weld in a fuel door and pocket into bed. I have already got the fuel door and pocket from a truck at the pick & pull. My build thread shows the tank mounted in the frame.

Hope it helps,
