Spotted A Sweet Gentleman Jim

I passed this '75 Gentleman Jim that is not far from my house. I just had to stop and check it out. It is saweet! It has a perfect black bucket seat interior and a built 350. I wish I had some coin. I told a friend about it and he knew the truck. He said another mechanic friend as done a lot of the work. This thing is nice!

One of the few 2wd long beds that I wouldn't mind owning. Very nice truck for sure, so thanks for sharing. Whats the asking price Tim?

Looks like it might be an original '75 or '76 G/J truck, but it does have a 1979-80 box on it. It's got the gas tank doors!!!!!
Just my thoughts!

You're right about the bed or bedside,if it was replaced. GM only had the door style part available after a certain point in time. They used up the 73-78 style replacing them for customers. This thing is restored and it looks like a great job. It is fresh and flawless. It's a shame it doesn't have the correct tank fillers,as far as being an authentic restoration goes.

Ken,I was about shocked at the asking price,to tell the truth. He's asking $6,500 obo. That's a turn key classy head turning 36 year old ride for probably 6k? I think that's a no thought just buy it price. Too bad I can't do it.

If the paint is as nice as you describe it, thats the cost of paint and your getting a free truck.

Did you notice if it had the bucket seat/console and tach cluster option?

If it's a real Gentleman Jim, then it did.

That black looked great on there. That body is straight as a pin and ot a swirl in the paint. The gold was perfect, too. That was surely a top notch paint job on top notch body.

I'm not going to bad-mouth any "un-authentic" parts of the GJ (just look at what I've done to mine)... but he's also missing the tailgate insert and tail light trim, and the body trim should be gold insert, not black, and the hood is missing the stripes down each side of it; yellow on white. The front fenders should also have "Sierra classic 15 GMC" tags. And mine came with fog lights, bed rails, and a tonneau cover... not sure if those are standard GJ options or dealer add-ons. The interior should be a caramel color, so if it's black he's definitely had it re-done. I wish I could see it in person... I've only ever seen one other GJ aside from mine, and it was a mutt of parts, to say the least. To see one looking that nice and clean... WOW. Not authentic, but clearly well-done.

It has definitely been redone...as a mild custom, not factory correct stock. I like it better than stock. It's cleaner, yet still pays tribute to a cool '70s package. I guess you'd call it a rest-mod. Like The motor is built up,the exhaust is larger than stock, and exits different, too. But,it's still a Gentleman Jim ;)

I can appreciate all the work that's been done to it. I do like the way it looks, but I think it needs brought back up to stock height since he's got the original 15" steelies on it. ;)

What's the whole deal behind this package?

There would never be such a package called "Gentleman" jim now because no-one is a gentleman anymore.

Look at the very front of the hood, there is a slightly raised section same width as the grill.

scottco 11-02-2011 09:10 PM

Re: Spotted A Sweet Gentleman Jim

I see the difference now!! The lip around the front of the hood !!!!!
