New V2500 Suburban added to the stable...couple pics

Just picked up a 90 Suburban as another project (which I do not need, but oh well). Had about a 4 hour drive home after I bought it and it runs like a top. Supposedly 60K on a crate 350 with 279K on the odometer and a TH400. 3/4 ton, 4wd, headers, Flowmaster, K&N, all brand new AC components, new radiator, etc. etc. Seems to be a great find so far. Looking at a lift pretty quickly, thinking the 6" Skyjacker, but also would love to hear recommendations on that subject (and anything else).

Here are a couple pictures from Day #1...

It's really nice to get into a project that isn't already a birds nest of crappy wiring and previous owner's mechanical hack jobs. Very much looking forward to diving into this one. I tore apart the passenger side rear door today to figure out why I couldn't unlock it (and hence couldn't open it) and got that all straightened out. Gonna need to open up all the other doors and give them a liberal dousing of lubricant to help out the sluggish windows and locks. Hoping not to have to replace the actuators and motors, but I'm sure that would help tremendously.

Nice! As for the lift, BDS Suspension has a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the heads up on the BDS warranty. Still shopping around trying to balance price and quality. Also trying to figure out exactly what size and style lift I want to go with. Seems like (and I could very well be wrong) that the same size lift on a Blazer will get it higher than a Suburban (I'm sure due at least partially if not entirely to the weight difference). Am I correct about that?

Wow same year Suburban as mine and mine used to have the exact power train. Use silicone spray on the window channels to help out the sluggishness.

I opened up the driver door to day and shot some carb cleaner on the moving parts to clean off some of the dirt grime and grease, then coated everything with WD-40, especially at all joints and pivot points for the lock and window mechanisms. It now rolls up and down much, much faster and actually locks and unlocks first time every time when I hit the power lock switch. I was thinking about using a dry lube (like a moly lube) on the mechanisms so as to not have the dust and dirt attracted to the WD-40. Not sure why I didn't do that now that I think about it. I didn't lube the window channels, just the regulators, but on the next one I'll be sure to do that.

Amazing looking Burb, any plans to do cosmetic work like paint or anything other than lift?

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Definitely cosmetic plans. Thinking flat black with matching wheels. Definitely going to freshen up the interior as well, although it's actually in pretty darn good shape as it is for 280K, or even for 80K.

Had a hiccup today as I took an 88 mile ride on the back of a flat bed tow truck because my starter solenoid decided to stick closed and spin my starter until it fried/locked the alternator (takes about a half mile, fyi), which did not smell good. Had it towed to my family's gun shop, which was on the way to where I was headed anyway, and spent the afternoon replacing my starter and alternator. Good to go now and putting out 14.1V at the alternator and the starter is a-ok.

Will also be building a roof rack for it, which with the lift should effectively render parking garages useless for me from now on.

I actually bought a 88' 3/4 4x4 burb last week too. I got it on CL. Shes not hacked, needs a lil work though. Very solid. Let me know what kind of lift you go with. This is my first 4x4.

I ordered the 4" Superlift from 4 Wheel Parts and the rest of the parts (steering arm, sway bar disco, brake lines, etc) from ORD. Hoping to get it all on over Thanksgiving.

That's okay, if you need convenient parking all you need do is use a Mustang hood for a ramp and park on top! lol (I'd watch that first step if you do though)

Haha, twins indeed! Right down to the missing radio, Flowmasters and the working underhood light. I was shocked that other than one high beam light, every other bulb and switch inside and out worked on mine. And I also used to live in CS...if I hadn't moved I might be driving your truck!

(I also noticed you have a 68 C1500 (mine is a 72) and an 04 Tahoe (mine is an 01 Yukon)....get outta my head!!! ;)
