What are you guys doing on your tranny cooling lines?
Just curious if you guys are using an adapter to connect the standard cooling lines or what? Where can you buy them?

I got mine at the yard from an Avalanche of the same year and motor/trans combo. I cut the factory crimped rubber section off and ran -6 AN to the cooler. I got all the fittings and line from Summit. I don't have any photos of my handy work, but will get some this weekend.

Thanks Clinebarger. I was wondering about this when I was able to thread them right in the tranny. Do I need to put an O-ring on there or just use the flat seal that was on the old fittings?

Remove the gasket, clean the fittings & mating threads in the trans case, Use Loctite 565 thread sealant.

Re: What are you guys doing on your tranny cooling lines?
Guys
I keep bringing up these old threads.. I like what Clinebarger said about using the old th350 fittings in the new 4l60s for the trans cooler lines. Seems like the 4l60s want 3/8s lines and the older trans' were happy with 5/16 lines. With using the older TH350 adapters and a 1/2"-20 fitting, will a 5/16 line be ok for the 4l60? Or is it possible to get a 1/2"-20 fitting on a 3/8ths line? Ultimately, id rather just bend my own poly armour lines with a 37 degree flare to mount up the the -6 fittings i have (was gonna use them in the camaro), but im still trying to figure out if i can flare poly armour with 37 AN single flares... thanks guys! |

I just uses the factory lines from the 04 and cut them to lenght and put an inverted flare and found some barb fitting at the local auto parts. I also plumbed a trans cooler inline in front of the radiator like the newer trucks do with the tow package. Worked out great.

I tapped mine to 1/4 NPT an used #6 to 1/4 npt male adapters. You could do #5 an but it is an unusual size and not in stock every where. Jay

I used npt to an barb fittings with sumitt twist-tite hose to the rad. Works great with no leaks daily driven hard.

Do Not use NPT fittings....It can crack the case.
