White smoke, lagging engine before warm up.
Here recently with a little bit cooler temps my truck blows white smoke for a bit and I have to stay on the gas some for about 2 minutes until it warms up, then it's hesitating for a little while until it gets warmer.
Carb problem or what do you guys think? it's an 86 |
Re: White smoke, lagging engine before warm up.
I think first thing would be to check the choke. It might be opening too fast or just not working at all. Step on the gas before you try to start with the air cleaner lid off and see if the flap closes.
Every vehicle blows steam out the exhaust when they're cold. I think it's just moisture that built up in the exhaust pipe... Edit: the only way to really check that the choke is or isn't working is after the truck has sat for a few hours (overnight). |

definately your choke needs cleaning and adjustment

Invest $12 in a manual choke.
If you have a lot of white smoke on start up it could be a blown head gasket, especially if you have trouble getting power at take off and low speed. |
