With new vent window assemblies at $350+ per side, Im going to have to just restore mine. Has any one done this?

No I havent. I would assume that you would just start with a bunch of vent windows and combine them into one?

This is interesting.

Cant remeber if LMC sells parts for them or just the whole assembly.

Keep us posted if you start this

I remember paying about $75 for one from LMC several years ago. Guess I better be more careful with it...

Re: Vent window assembly restoration??

LMC sells the whole assembly, or the gasket, or the spring. Thats about it.

one piece glass is sounds like a good idea when vent windows are that much

Re: Vent window assembly restoration??

MY PO siliconed my vent windows shut to prevent wind noise. LOL
Im going to replace my rubber weather striping but you have to remove the rivet to do it but you can get a replacement rivet. I dont know how to reinstall the new "special" rivet, never seen one like it anywhere else.

I have no intention of installing a one piece glass, it looks like the door loses strength.

as my 78's were bad, found my used 89 were better shape and locked too
depending how you want it to look, some newer used ones might be ok

My driver side vent needs some help. It is missing the bottom piece that goes into the the door as a swivel point. Can't get that unless I buy a new kit.

I have always cruised the pick a parts and looked for newer Suburbans. I tried to redo the ones on my '73 and it was a major PITA. Never again.

Re: Vent window assembly restoration??

I replaced my drivers side one that broke, with a salvage yard find. I thought about trying to repair the original, but it almost looks like the pivot point for the hinge, was originally one piece with the glass frame itself. It was hard to tell exactly since mine was so rusty.

Not saying repair couldn't be done, but I think it would be a big job. I totally understand the desire though, as the price for buying a new replacement is a little ridiculous.

I have seen lots of used vent window assemblies for sale on Ebay for not much money.

My drivers side vent window is plexiglass glass from p.o. and the frame is bent. I've found a couple in salvage yards because there's no way I can come up with the money for new parts

Re: Vent window assembly restoration??

Someone here rebuilt their vent windows and did a fairly comprehensive write up w/plenty of good pics. I just did a quick search but couldn't find it. Maybe someone will remember who it was or possibly saved the link. All I really remember about it was they used petroleum jelly to massage the new seals into the original frame.

Do you mind saying how much they charged to rebuild them?

x3. would also like to know cost for rebuild

Precision Parts 11-10-2014 02:46 PM

Re: Vent window assembly restoration??

Hey Guys,

Cost of rebuild is $237.48 per side. We do not have anymore assemblies in stock so you will need to send yours to us. Core refund of $60 per side would then take it down to $177.48 per side.

If that pivot bolt at the bottom (where the spring is) is broken, it can be welded back on BUT, it is a difficult weld to repair. Send me a PM and I'll get you in touch with our builder to discuss your options.

If you want to tackle the job yourself, I urge you to watch the 1pc/2pc comparison video below. I still get lots of people ordering the wrong style. This is critical in doing a quality job!

Let me know if you have any questions.
Derek

I'm planning on going 1 piece on my current, but have another build planned with vents. Price seems reasonable!
