4x4 drivetrain
Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how large of a tire I can go with my drivetrain? 1972 K/10. 12 bolt, 3.73, 350. Currently a TH350 but will be changed to a 700R4. I believe the transfer case is a 203. This will need to be able to drive on the highway, between 65 and 70.
Also, would I be able to get away with a wider tire on the original, stock white rims? Thanks! James |
Re: 4x4 drivetrain
There is a guy in my town that has 49" Irocs on stock 10 bolts. You can put 33s on those trucks stock and not hurt performance much and work with the 3.73. But if your gonna go bigger, and going with an OD tranny, might want to think about getting more gear.
You can run 33s and 35s on stock 8" wide wheels. Any wider should go on a wider rim. |

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Personally, I'd stick with 33's if you aren't going to regear the axles. 35's with 3.73 axles can go down the highway at 70 no problem, but getting there is a royal pain. Add any hill or mountain in the way and you'll feel the lack of power. I've got 35's with 3.73's and can attest to that. |
