will this work?

search is getting me nowhere, just need a little advice.

so theres a good deal here (which never happens on this island)

set of like new 40's tsl on rims for $400

ok, I bite at the ad, the real deal, but need to hurry

I run 35s now on what seems to be a 4inch lift, springs and blocks.

so im thinkin i need around 8inches, but...

will the lift require new driveshafts? the po put in new driveshafts last year, they look stock length but what do i know.

I was planning on 40's down the road, but this will save me some coin if I buy now and would like to run these tires by next summer.

If I thought I could get away with just a body lift I might go that route, but it doesn't seem like it would fit.

what do you think?

d44/d60, 4.10, 383, built tranny, stock steering/brakes and I think 4 in lift

BUY THOSE TIRE!

You can run 40s with a 8", but will not have room for articulation. I am running 12" lift with 39.5 and still hit the fenders from time to time. As for the drive shafts, you will need to have them lengthen. This is fairly cheap vs. a complete driveline rebuild.

thanks for the encouragment, but I want to be able to use them.

I guess I can take that old back door to the porch and make another parts table.

40's on 4.10's would be extremely gutless. Beyond the lift needed you'll need to run 5.13's. Not to mention the 44 isn't going to last long pushing 40's. Breakout the sawzall if you don't want to lift it higher than it is now to clear the 40's.

5.13 are low! I'm running 4.56 with 39.5 and have plenty of get up and go. The dana 44 will do fine with the 40s. Unless you are doing some hard 4 wheeling then you might start breaking stuff. I say wait until you start breaking stuff before you pick up a D60.

Re: will this work?

this is my dd, I drive 15 miles a day. The steering and suspension are good now and by next fall I would like to have a better axle or upgrade what I got.

my steel is good so no sawzall. I would run my 35s this winter as they are a awesome in the snow and ice tire compared to the tsl. so I got some time, but not money. new driveshafts are expensive, especially if I am looking at new springs. I was hoping that a 3in body lift would do it but I dont think it would work.

If I buy these tires I will have to in the morning or someone else will, I really dont have time to see what will work (driveshafts, clearance, brake lines, steering)

the gearing will have to be addressed, but I think I can get away as i sit with 4.10. I have a locker in the 60 and I can smoke the times when I hammer it. I run about 2100 rpm at 50-55.

ultimately, you can not hit the bogs here without 40's and locked, until then I am just a pavement pounder.

chevy1tonfun, your truck is what my truck should be

Re: will this work?

Your truck is lot prettier than mine. Mine is for sale if you want some parts! Snag those tires and myself and the others on the board will get you the rest of the way. You could do a 6" lift and a 3 BL to get 9" and you'll probably get by. By the way you won't need new driveshafts, just get them lengthened. No biggy.

theres nobody on the island that can/will do it. at least that was the case for my jeep

I think I am going to go for it, i think they are 39.5x15 on 16.5,s Do I have to worry about backspacing? anything else I need to check?

heres a shot of the backcountry, this is were I want to go and not breakdown. You get far enough in a heli and a extraction fee of $10k is your only way out. theres no trails, just muskegs. Out of the 8 thousand or so people that live here this land is mostly reserved to ATVs, theres maybe a handful of capable trucks here

Re: will this work?

shoot, i'd grab those tires and wheels if you plan on runnin them down the road might as well take the deal now, i lucked out on mine. i bought my 40" tires with 60% tread and an 8" lift(no block) for 450 bucks lol. and deff dont cut that purdy thing up. i personally dont like body lifts, i think it would ruin the look of your truck.

Does you truck ride like a buckboard wagon with that 12" lift?

Re: will this work?

I'd stay with what you have. It looks like a 6" lift to me. If you go any bigger with "anything" you will need to do "everything" to have a truck that is worthy of going way out where you want to go and make it back. You truck is set up really well now for that. I'd invest in traction aid differentials if you don't already have those.

Please read through my post in the above thread. Not saying you should redo your whole suspension, but you should be able to clear 40's w/o problems with the right backspace wheel.

Re: will this work?

that is the thread is great, definately want to go more that route.

Tires sold last night, he got the full 500 that he was asking. Ok though, if I can pull the suspension off cheaply with reusing a lot of what I have I can afford to buy new.

Thanks again for all the replies. I was kind of skeptical about what kind of replies I would get but I now have some great proven ideas that going to work better any way you look at it.

Yeah it's in good shape, but if you don't want to lift it there's only one way to clear the tires. 40's on a 44 without a problem? 35's are pushing it on a 44 and even more so if you do lock it up. If I'm going to be deep enough a heli ride is the only way out of a problem occurs, I sure as hell am not going to bet on the 44 surviving in the back-country with no trails to speak of. I've not wheeled outside of Colorado, but muskeg-no trails at all might just be the definition of hard 4-wheeling.

I've personally seen a D44 front shaft grenade with Q78 (36") Swampers in DirtyLarry's 8.1L powered 78 in nothing more than a snow drift. Granted, pushing 425 hp at it didn't help, nor did the tru-trac or the stock shafts. Point being D44's will not survive the abuse of big tires and a heavy truck long enough for me to head out into the boonies far away from help and push it.

If getting away and being far out in the sticks (meaning far away from help) your stuff has to be bulletproof.
