How rare is this....

In my rounds today, I came across a 1967...I think...the owner says that it is 1965....my guess by the hood/grille...it was certainly NOT a 1965-66 body style.

It is a K20 4x4, 4 speed, step side, V-8 (307 stickers on the valve covers, 2bbl).

The truck is all original (except for a 1 ton lift gate - installed when it was new)

There is no rust in the cab, rockers, floors, or around the windshield. It still has 1975 Texas Farm Truck Plates on it.

It was offered for sale to me.....what might this be worth? Is it rare, or just another run of the mill farm truck?

Sorry, no pictures this time. This truck is right up my alley... I could be 2 Chevy Scotty :chevy:

It all depends what did he offer it for? Sounds like a good truck to build or drive if its that clean.
Like Longhorn said $500-$15000

307s came out in '68 if it's original. That truck is a bit rare no matter what year or options. Most Stepside K/20s would have been for some sort of utility use. I think if you found a CST it would be highly unusual. So,yeah it's a farm truck, they all were. Is it desirable? Heck yes! Besides, don't go by anything other than it's appeal to you. That's why I buy what I buy. As mentioned,no way to give a value with what little info you gave. What color is it?

Re: How rare is this....

Guys...I didn't get any photos when I was there, but I will be back again late next week or early in the following week.

Options? No AC, manual tranny, Engine is the factory original 307, never broke down, never rebuilt (2 barrel carb, factory air cleaner ect...)

Color - White

Seats - blue vinyl

Bed - stepside, wood long gone - recovered with 3/8 steel plate.

Forgot to look for spare tire mount....looked all original, even the lift gate had a bumper that looks period correct.

Were there any other options that would be available? I tried to get a peek at the SPID, but the latch on the glove box door was broken. This is the original owner, it has been his farm truck since new...still has nylon bias ply mud grips all around. He says that it will fire up and run with a new battery and fresh gas....he stopped using it because he is "....too damn old to have a truck without AC..."

Will try to do a better job next visit....I was surprised by this one (wasn't looking for old trucks, just out working) ;)

Okay...so I bit the bullet and now will have to change my user name to: Two Chevy Scotty.

The good:

It IS a 1968

It runs!

It drives!

The liftgate works.

The PO put in a FULL tank of gas and a new battery

The bad:

It does have a minor bit of rust (I might not have looked it over closely enough the first time)

The tires are all shot

It is growing moss on the paint

It has 3 split rim tires and one 'new' 16" steel wheel OEM Chevy

....and while running it before loading onto the flat bed, the crankcase filled up with gasoline :o

And for all those wanting the pictures...here are some...sorry, they are phone camera shots, but that's all that I had

Let me know what you guys think about this one.

Re: How rare is this....

I forgot the added bonus.....the original owner had that tailgate that they had taken off in 1968 when they put the lift gate on....what were the odds of that!?!

Re: How rare is this....

Id ditch the liftgate but other than that its a prety sweet ride..

Re: How rare is this....

The front guard, bed rack, rear bumper and lift gate will bring at least 200 dollars in scrap so that would be that much less you would have in it.

That's a cool old truck. Looking forward to more picture and details.

Re: How rare is this....

I think if you can restore the gate and the bumpers, I would leave it like it is... just make it prettier.. then you would be garunteed to have a one of a kind.. and if it all works even better!

Re: How rare is this....

Looks like a pretty solid truck, could be a good project, depends on what he thinks it is worth and what you pay because you will keep on paying like all of us for a while as projects go, kind of like the lift gate and dash stickers too.

Rooster's 67 03-10-2012 12:48 AM

Re: How rare is this....

Dont dump the lift gate, the original tail gate wont match for $#!t. Whats on the SPID? and I would leave all the equipment on it, just make it work and operate as it did in 1974, because it would have had enough patina by then. Don't restore it.

I like it! Perfect 4x4 imo. Doesn't need to be nice because its meant to work.

Cool truck!!! Kinda looks like something that was being built up for a Mad Max movie.

I like that old beast! I'd leave it just the way it is.

Re: How rare is this....

First off, what an interesting find you came into!
I agree with what everyone else is sayin about the front and rear bumper stuff.

Power wash that thing, replace the fuel pump, and change all the fluids. Then see about getting it running good, and make sure the brakes are good before you move it!

Curious what the sign says on the dash.

Re: How rare is this....

It's just what I pictured. I like it. Those mud grips are awesome, probably ride like rolling on logs, and most likely rotted...but cool! I saw all that extra steel and thought what it would all bring in scrap, too. Off course, the bumpers you'd be buying to replace them would cost more than what you took in. No matter how you go,it's a cool truck.
