H052 to 14 bolt FF
 

So getting ready to start the process of swaping out the H052 (4:56) to a 14 bolt (3:73) and after the bed removal i see that one of my bed mounting brackets was cracked. Does anyone know of where i could get another one or has someone made there own? I was also wondering what others have done for trailing arm brackets and pan hard brackets. Trying to do this as easily as possible. Don't want to cut the parts off the old axle just in case i might need to swap in the old one or even try to sell it. Any pictures and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

x2. Do the 14 bolts have the larger axle tubes also?

Got the axle perch brackets from captainfab. Outstanding work and fit like a glove. All lined up and tack welded. Still need to figure out a solution for the panhard bar. Prefernce is not to cut it off the old axle. Any solutions?

i used a new adjustable panhard bar and brackets from CPP. Works very well.:smoke:

What did the trailing arm perches run you from captain fab (I couldn't find them)? Been thinking about doing the swap myself, but just did the brakes and maintenance on the HO52. Thanks

Well after months of scraping, blasting, painting and spending money faster than the money tree was producing its all starting to come together. Was wondering if anyone happens to know the part number for the parking brake cable for the 14 bolt ff drums? Does anybody who has done this have any photos of what and how they hooked up the brakes (regular and emergency) thanks in advance.

More progress. Parking brake installed. Made new brackets to mount to the trailing arm, fortunatly there was a hold were i needed it. Also got fancy with the parking brake cable at the caliper and made a little bracket to support it. Had to put a washer inside the tube to prevent the sheathing from pulling back. Brake lines all hooked, but noticed one problem. The brake line goes right were the bump stop would hit. Also noticed some marks on the aux spring brackets like rubbing marks. Has anyone ever loaded these things so much that they actually wore marks into the stops.

For the panhard bar you could always run something like I have on mine.

Stevo427 i actually bought the one from CPP. Did not use the bracket to the frame but did mount the bracket to the axle.

Hey 67C20,

What disc brake are you using? What are you using for an e-brake? Are those caddy calipers?

Getting ready to swap in a 14ff myself and want to convert to disc.

SunSoaked i bought the kit from TSM, loaded calipers, brackets, pads and hoses. Yes they are caddy calipers w/ parking brake. Really happy with it. Hooking up the parking brake took some thought. I used a parking brake cable from an 85 c20. I had to cut a washer to fit over the cable to prevent the cable from sliding up in the tube. Cut off the spring and the drum mounting tabs. The TSM kit comes with the round spacers i welded a bolt to the axle and an angle to the spacer to better secure the cable. This cable required i move the parking brake bracket on the trailing arm. Rather than move it i made a new one. Fortunatly there was a hole in the trailing arm that i could use. I also bought a 36" piece of 1/4-28 all thread that i replaced the parking brake cable bar on the passenger side (bracket that holds the cable). Other than that i had to weld on the brackets for the lines from the calipers and the tab for the rubber hose. To this point it has been pretty easy. Just be prepared for some sticker shock. Also you will need the panhard bar from CPP.

67c20 - or anyone...

I'm in the middle of a 14 bolt swap and had a question about installing the panhard bar. I don't think I'm going to use the adjustable at least not yet. I'm just going to reweld the old bracket on the 14 bolt. Should I have the truck sitting on the ground (rear suspension loaded) or would it be allright to have it up in the supported on the frame (unloaded)? When I took it off the rear was hanging and I thought the bar would be under tension but it wasn't. So that made me think that it would be under tension with it sitting on the ground and free when the rear suspension was unloaded. Is that right? Any help would be appreciated.
