Do these trucks have a nickname?
 

OK, so there are the tri-fives and the breadboxes, do our trucks have a common nickname? If not, we as a board should come up with the "official" nickname.

We beat this one to death a year or so ago. What we came up with is... No.

I heard that these were known as 'Glamour Trucks'
But don't crucify me yet...its just what I heard...I could be wrong with the wording, but I know 'Glamour' was in there somewhere.

'Glamour Trucks' is what I have always seen, but aperantly some magiazine or something called them CST trucks...even though that would only be 67 - 70 since they weren't CST after that.

most of the ones i have seen more especially if painted red or orange could be called "flying bricks" thats what i call mine

I kinda like the "muscle trucks" name that somebody brought up the last time we discussed this.

These trucks don't really need a nickname. When someone see's one, they just say, "there goes one of the greatest looking Chevy trucks ever made!" :D

CST badges and option listing was used in Blazer through 1972.

The best, when you ask people what a classic chevy is the tell you its a 67-72 chevy truck.

Very true, but none the less...my truck isn't a CST, so how can the whole gen be called that when only about 25% (guessing here) were equipped so? When i had a CST, no one knew what the heck it stood for, that was one of the most frequently asked questions in traffic.

I like muscle trucks....
I think CST has always been for Custom Sport Truck.....like the best money could buy then....

As mentioned these are just two of the sources who have named the 67-72 trucks as the Custom Sport Truck era but there are others that also support this terminology. It was either WES or GMCPaul who referenced an great article on these trucks a while back and I believe it was an old Classic Truck piece. Maybe they can dig up that sight but it was a very informative write up on these trucks. This article also called the 67-72 trucks the "Custom Sport Truck" era.

You ask why CST when not all trucks had the CST option? Or better yet was not even an option that was avaliable for some trucks? Simple answer...I think? This was the era (67-72) that one could deck out a their truck with car like options and features plus there was an engine for everybody's taste. You could go for a 6 popper or the brute force of a 402 BB. You want comfort options...Then one could order AC, cruise, tilt, AM/FM radio, tinted glass, buckets seats and so forth. You want chrome...then order chrome bumpers and get the extra shiny trim by ordering the various poackages avaliable. I could go on but I think you get the drift. CST was an new era for the American trucks built in America (Canada included). I hope this helps.

I like the sound of BRICK ... kinda like how some refer to the mid-50's cars as a SHOEBOXE .... :D

When it's all said and done whats in a name...the real point does any other truck manufacture have such a following as the 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck? Tonka might be close. HEHEHE
Rather its a low optioned truck or one with all the goodies they all look sweet. Which truck gets more attention...a Z71 or a good looking 67-72 Chevy/GMC Truck. Its no contest. Oh well...Got to get back to work!!!

Thanks, guys, for all the feedback. I didn't know this was a previously discussed subject. I was just wondering if there was an easy way to reference our trucks, as "sixty-seven to sevent-two" is pretty lengthy. I like the "CST" and "muscle truck" ones, although I think they will always be known as 67-72's.

Hey that's what makes this web sight so great. There are lots of guys who are who are wiliing and able to help out. I know enough to be dangerous and that's about it. It's good to see all the guys help out with these questions.

I'm glad that people like the term muscle trucks, I just figured since people refer to cars from 67-71 as muscle cars, muscle trucks fit in as well. But I also agree that they really don't need a nickname!

My friend Andrew calls 67-72's hoser trucks, because of some of the "hosers" that drive em around here
