different 64 stepper

yesterday I got this stepside that is a little odd.
6 cyl., 3-speed, no power anything, standard heater but has custom cab chrome, bbw and deluxe steering wheel with one cool grill guard.
it is sometimes funny what people ordered on a new vehicle back then. what options they think is important enough to pay a little extra for.

I'm thinking about keeping it like it is. It runs pretty good and there's no way to fake that patina.

this sweet ass impala was washed with CLR and then cleared. I'd do the same but use a satin clear to avoid the "shine"
Then re-chrome your trim, emblems and that deer pusher. Fresh chrome on 40 year old paint is soooo sweet.

Yes, search CLR on here and you will see pictures of how well it works.

Truck looks great, keep it the same and just slam it!

The patina is sick! I'd rechrome the pushbar. Paint the wheels black, white wall tires, rechrome center caps and grill. Slam it to the ground and rock it!!

Yes that is odd for a stepside. It also has the stainless windshield trim and a very straight looking aluminum grill. I'd be curious as to what material that grill guard is made from.

grill guard looks to be chrome plated mild steel tube.

the cab has all the usual problems but a keeper, worth fixing.
i'm not much on the sixes and the bolt action hangs up pretty bad so those things get upgraded. got a fresh 283 and later fully syncro 3-speed.

by the time the metal work and mechanican is done i'm sure the rest will be figured out.

the hubcaps on the truck are a mystery. i'm guessing jc whitney replacements since there's no bowtie or lettering on them.

thanks for the comments and it is a weird one. but i like it...

Re: different 64 stepper

Your grille guard certainly does look like a "Smash Hit" model. If it is, you may find it is actually made of solid steel bars. The first link on the attached post shows one with like new plating:
