Changing the trans cooling circuit

The truck in my avatar is a 96 GM xcab auto 2wd 5.7 vortec. It just had different body metal on the outside. My GM truck is equipped with trans cooling lines. They run into two coolers one inside the end of the radiator and the other piggybacked in front of the AC radiator.

I am doing some more body mods and am starting to run into space issues up near the radiator.

It would help if I could take out the unit that hangs in front and just use the portion that is inside the cap of the radiator. I doubt if I will ever use the truck to tow anything. Does anyone know if I will be OK doing this?

That sounds like your donor truck had a towing package having both tranny coolers on it.
Back in the day all were plumbed into the radiator tank only and they survived just fine under normal driving conditions. As wide open as the grille area on your IH I bet it will cool just fine.
