71 Blazer 4x4 Fix or part

Well I just on spur of moment deal bought a 71 blazer. Was not really looking for one but could not pass up the price. SHe has her share of rust but nothing that cant be fixed. I bought it minus the motor, even though it is still in the pictures. Has Automatic & 205 transfercase. Original buckets & console but missing the back seat. Also came with two other double wall tops. Will be picking it up on Sunday, after he gets the motor out. Here are some pictures

Richard

Guess I will ask for forgiveness on Sunday when I come back home, but i think momma may put her foot down after this one:sumo:

From what i see in the pics the body is in great shape and the interior can use some work as well as the body. I wouldnt part it, to much potential to part. The automatic tranny/4x4 combination is a nice addition to the potential. Most are hard to come by in that shape! Good Luck to ya from your northern neighbor of W. Chester Pa! Andrew.

When I get it home Sunday I plan to take a lot more pictures and post them, including the two extra tops. I have a 4 bolt main 350 out of my 71 gmc pickup that i sold that I might drop in it. If so then I will be able to make up my mind a little bit better.

4x4 blazers are bad ass! Doesn't look like its in too bad of shape, run it!

I've seen people start with much worse.

In the pics it seems it might be decent enough to drive as is and use as an around town beater of sorts. No worries of parking lot dents and chips, ;)

Looks good, would be fun to mess with. But I say part it so I can get most of the parts:lol:

I would like to see pics of the undercarriage. Any windshield rust? From what I can see I say its a fixer upper.

Re: 71 Blazer 4x4 Fix or part

It does have its share of under body rust but i did not see any around the wiinshield area. If it does not need any major mechanical work i think i will slap my motor in it and keep it for a beater. if anything major wrong with drivetrain once motor is put in i will most likely part it out

Well got the blazer on the trailer. Can't bring myself to part it after getting it loaded. Definately gonna fix it up. Probably wont do anything major to it but she will get her fair share. Did find out the transmission has less than 5k miles on it. Will try to get some better pictures of it tomorrow while its still on the trailer.

That's a good choice, should be fun to drive and fix at the same time.

From what I can see, it looks workable.

took some more pictures today the only spot that concerns me is on the drivers door pillar it has a rust thru spot. Luckly it will be behind the new gaskets once I weld it up so Idont have to spend a lot of time on it. As I figured the rockers, rocker boxes floor pans and around the rear wheel yubs are shot and in need of metal work. Other than that she looks pretty decent.

Funny though, the tailgate is perfect. no dents or rust.

One question I do have... Is there supposed to be something screwed to the top of the windhield pillar that goes back toward the door glass to seal up where the top, pillar and door glass meet? I see screw holes like something should be there but nothing is. Where would I get replacements?

Thats the drip deflecter that mounts there.

Re: 71 Blazer 4x4 Fix or part

are they available aftermarket, or maybe someone has some extra ones laying around? I would say this is the reason the door post has rust holes in it

I believe i saw them in a lmc catalog, which i only use as a referance. Others must carry them too.

San anyone tell me how much lift is in this truck It has a 3" body lift and has 35" tires but have no idea how much spring is in it. The bumper measures about 24" from ground to bottom of bumper. Here is a picture of the spring as well.

WHo has the best aftermarket parts like the rocker boxes? would like to get some stuff ordered soon to start working on it. I would even go for some good used originals but I doubt I will find any that are worth using.

Well my list keeps growing for new metal panels, but i think i will go ahead and get them all on order from Wes out @ Classic Heartbeat. I have not been able to find any good used and last time I got parts from LMC they just did not come close. Everything I read on Wes says his parts are top notch. I guess I will find out soon.
