Unused Heater core for Transmission cooler???

Hey guys I have a pretty new heater core laying around that was only used for a short time before being removed. I was thinking of using it as a transmission cooler what do yall think?

I also have a small AC condensor I thought about using...

Just a thought. What do you think?

I would think a mod like that will either cool to much or not enough. Not a good idea IMO.

i dont think it would work well.. thats too thick... id use a coler designed for transmissions

if its easy enough to hook up and u can monitor temps then why not?

take pressure into consideration, I dont know what the trans cooling line runs at, but a heater core is made for rad pressure

I use the factory ac condensor, and it works awesome.

Kind of what I was thinking. I know some people run them on dragsters and circle track cars but I don't know how it would do on a daily driver. I think it would work fine, still unsure though.

The tubes are too big. An ac condenser would work though. I used an ac condenser off a K car as a tranny cooler on my 73 Pontiac station wagon years ago.

its not too little or to much cooling thats the issue its the pressure, ac condenser works under high pressure so it should work, heater core would prob blow all over the road

That is a very good point. After looking at the ac condenser you can also see that the fittings would make it a very easy install too.

As long as the transmission had enough pressure to force the fluid through the ac condenser then it should be fine. However if the volume of the condenser hinders the flow of fluid do to lack of pressure then you are not accomplishing anything. (Honestly I still think it will work fine.)

Maybe I will experiment by installing an inline pressure gauge and temperature gauge.

my only concern would be flow. im sure your trans supply lines flow more volume than a normally functioning a/c...i just dont know how much.
flush the hell out of the a/c condensor core if it's anything other than pristine
