Lowering 77c10 HELP
 

i really want to lower my truck but i am on a very tight budget ive heard on flipping leaf springs or taking a couple leaf springs out it seems simple but i dont want to mess anything up. has anyone tried this?

i couldnt spend much at all im a junior in high school so money is tight, id like to lower it about the same height as yours maybe a bit higher

I have 2.5in McGaughys drop spindles and front springs cut one round for another 2in and a flip kit on the rear for 5in. I did my whole drop for $340+alignment.This is about as cheap as you can do it the right way. You can lower it for nothing like me and my friends used to do 20 somethin years ago before modern kits were being made, but I wouldnt recomend it.

You can do a 2/4 a little cheaper with shackles and hangers but trust me, once you drop it a little you will want it lower.

Thanks but Im not sure wich drop on my truck you were refering to. The first drop is 2/3 then I droped it 4.5/5

i like the first one but with the second one do you have any problems with wheel clearance or scraping over stuff?

The control arms can srape on steep drives once in a while but you learn to drive where you can avoid scraping them.

The best way to do a budget drop is to cut one coil off your stock front spring. That will give you a 2" drop . In the rear you can run a lowering shackle for +/- 2" and move the front spring mount up for another +/- 2" of drop. This will get you started till you can save up for drop spindles, a flip kit and C-notch.

Just remember, "Do Not" heat the front springs, cut them with a cut off wheel, or set them in a bucket of water if you must use a torch.

You can cut the spring for free, and buy a drop shackle.from.autozone for $30

Anything to support a young kid getting into this.

Also, my 1st was a 77 chevy 2wd lwb. I loved that thing.
Cut the coils, then saved ur for spindles, then did a flip in the back.

yeah i got mine last may when i was 15 im 16 and got my license now i love driving it just dont like the gas milage but its worth it

This is at least a 4in front 5or6in rear. A budget spring cut and moving the hangers will not get you this low.

sometimes when using lowering shackles, you may have to cut the .bed brace for clearance. depending on the length of your leafs

Yeah the mileage sucks but it does beat driving a PRIUS. :metal:

Your truck is in super nice condition compared to alot out there, I would hate to see you hack your truck up to save a few bucks when the lowering kits are relatively cheap. Patients will pay off in the end and youll have the drop you want done the right way.;)

thanks man i never plan on selling the truck and keeping it as long as i can i would rather spend money and have it done right then hack it up and everything go to you know what later on down the road ive also kept all of my original parts from everything ive done to it so far:chevy:

i didn't consider moving the stock hangers up, hacking my truck up. didn't have the funds at the time so that's the way it was. different strokes for different folks.
