Different take on the tail light gas filler door
I thought I would share some pics of my tail light gas filler door I made for my truck. I saw a few on here, but didn't really like how the tail light folded down. I figured it would get in the way while filling up. I tried to go up using hinges and failed a few times. I wound up just drilling the housing and using a 1/4-20 bolt through the housing as a hinge. I had to weld a little tab on the left hand side for the bolt to go into. I also made a little sheet metal catch the holds the light up while I fill up. It is spring loaded closed as well.
Here are the pics http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...z/IMG_0084.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...z/IMG_0089.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...z/IMG_0091.jpg Lynn |

This looks like a good wat to go for me as well. I think I'm getting a Blazer tank kit for Christmas. How did you set up the spout to tank?

Boy, that thar is slick!
I want to do that to my stepside... but I can't figure out how to make the gas go uphill. |
Re: Different take on the tail light gas filler door
Well done, Sir! I like your K.I.S.S. approach to solving the problem. Only thing I would do is get a nice button head stainless bolt to dress up what you see in the tailgate jamb area.

Re: Different take on the tail light gas filler door
I used a mid 70's blazer tank I scavenged from an old frame I had. The only issue I had with mounting the filler low instead of high was that it doesn't leave much fall. I welded a filler pipe in the D/S rear corner. I ran the filler pipe way up into the tank so that it wouldn't have as much of a chance to splash out on acceleration. The only issue I have had with it is that you have to fill it on the first click on the gas pump. I would not want to do it on a daily driver that way.

I like the light pivoting up. I am going to try this using a cabinet hinge that pivots out and up. Sorry, don't know the name of the hinge. Nice job!
