Wiper motor placement
 

Good day and Merry Christmas! Checking back in after a fairly long absence with a windshield wiper question.

My truck has a LT1 from a 95 corvette and the glove box area (and every other bit of space behind the dash) is taken up by the wiring and computer stuff from the newer motor. Now that I'm back in Texas I have to pass inspection which includes working wipers. Has anybody out there mounted the wiper motor in a different or 'remote' location?

Any insight or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Evidently not... I can't imagine enough wiring that you can't use the stock wiper motor. I have an '86 TPI in my '70 SWB and I have plenty of room. I am running Vintage Air and an Alpine stero in mine. Also, my ECM is under the dash.

I thought the C4 LT1s had an external weatherproof PCM that mounted in the engine compartment? If that is mounted underdash, I can see why you are out of room.

It would be WAY easier to move a PCM and some wiring harness than it would be to move the wiper motor.

Appreciate the replies. I'm not 100% sure what all is in the way. I'll post a pic this evening and maybe get some help on what I can easily move to make room for the motor. Thanks again for the assistance.

Are you sure your wiper motor is bad?
I learned the hard way, that it wasn't the motor but a seized actuator arm.

Take the cowl screen off, then disconnect the arms from the wiper motor. Then turn it on to see if it is in fact dead.

Whether left or right-hand drive, the motor mounts in one place. It doesn't seem to take that much room, although I can appreciate your problem.

Can you tie a string to one wiper, route the string to the side of the windshield, then into the cab and tie a string to the other wiper and bring it inside the other side of the cab? Get a buddy to ride with you when it rains and you guys just take turns pulling on the strings to make the wiper work....as fast or as slow as needed. Oh, you'd have to have the linkage working, but won't be anything under the dash! Some good nylon cord might be the best thing for longevity.

Try a lower profile wiper motor like the 80's vintage S-10 truck & S-10 Blazer wiper motor. I have one on my 68 Camaro but the truck wiper motor has a different bolt pattern. You will have to mess with the mount bolt pattern & firewall seal issue and the pivot arm orientation but those are pretty easy fixes compared to relocating your PCM and under dash wiring.

It also uses a separate electric washer pump to give you even more room. I used an 88-98 truck washer jar with attached but hidden electric washer pump with this wiper motor.
