66 SWB retirement project
I retired in Oct & immediately started on my 64 1/2 ton short bed. It has a 350 V8, 400 turbo trans, & is already converted to 5 lug front disc. The engine is shot & the rest needs alot of work! Wish me luck:ito:

Re: 66 SWB retirement project
Welcome to the forum, and retirement. Limited resources sucks, but being able to live on whatever schedule you feel like is pretty darn nice.

Re: 66 SWB retirement project
I already have a lowered 71 SWB 1/2ton so i,m going to actually do a slight lift on this with some 31 tires & heavy duty coils. The rest is going to stay pretty much stock.:ito:

Welcome to the board!
Congrats on retiring, what did you retire from, if I may ask? I am either 2.5 years or one really bad day away from retiring from the Army. :smoke: Hope you share your build with us, we like that sort of stuff around here :metal: |

Welcome.
Nice to have you. Does your truck have any interesting history? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 66 SWB retirement project
A little history on my project:
It was at a tow yard for about 7 years & I had been cannibalizing it for about 5 yrs. It was an old city truck & it had a utility bed on it. It was parked tight between other vehicles so I never realized it was a short bed. About 4 months ago they offered it to me before they were going to scrap it. They pulled it out & then I saw that it was a short bed chassis. They practically gave it to me! Luckily I still have most of the parts I pulled off of it! I had planned on buying a 66 short bed that was for sale & had already spoken with that owner. But when this fell into my lap I figured fate moved its mighty hand! It was a definite love connection!:ito: |

Re: 66 SWB retirement project
I think it is cool knowing the history of a vehicle, kind of adds something to the rig.
Cheers on your hand of fate, cannot wait to see what you do with it. Got a plan yet? |
Re: 66 SWB retirement project
I picked up a nice fleetside short bed for it. Gonna pull the motor out this week & power wash the engine compartment. I'm not going to do a complete frame off resto, but I cleaned up the frame when I had the bed off. I will clean up as much of the frame as I can when I have parts of it exposed. I will upgrade as much of it as I can but I have to be able to move the truck around as soon as possible while I work on it. :ito:

Welcome to the forum. I am now addicted. Addicted but it also gives me motivation to get out and do some work.
Congrats on retirement, I pretend I'm retired at work most days. Lots of pictures and not responsible for forum addiction. You have a nice start. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Its been a slow project to say the least! But I put in a fresh motor that my little brother & oldest son picked up for me. I've got it running & found out that
the truck has a good TB400 trans & a 4 link 8.2 rear end out of a Pontiac. It might even be a posi rear end. I,m gonna work on the front suspension & brakes next so I'll try to update as often as I can. Here are a couple of recent photos. Attachment 1007547 Attachment 1007548 |
