Dash refurb
Im installing a new painless harness in my 72. I took out the dash to get access and found other problems and decided to spruce up my gauge cluster. Stock it was woodgrain with chrome around edges, chrome is worn off and I took off wood grain because it faided. So the question is can i just spray paint the chrome back on or will it look like hell what are my options thanks guys.

Re: Dash refurb
Actually I think chrome tape would look better then the paint I tried that and wasn't happy with it...

Re: Dash refurb
no and YES.....
attempting to paint it will look crappy...these dash bezels aren't very expensive. Get a new repop one. I painted mine but i wasn't trying to replicate chrome. JMO anyway Tim |
Re: Dash refurb
Painted one on a beater many, many years ago. OK, but not great.
Can chip and scratch easily. Not worth it to me. My most recent project I bought a new repop bezel. Cleaned the plastic lens and touch-up painted the indicator needles. Looks like a million bucks! A new bezel is fairly cheap and well worth it. You have the old one out, do it right with your new harness. You'll be looking at those gauges for many years. |
Re: Dash refurb
new bezel is about 50 bucks.
the black flakes off pretty easy, mine does its from top banana/tim christian. you can touch up with sharpie |
Re: Dash refurb
The Fusion plastic paint works well{it melts into the plastic}but the chrome will be tough to duplicate.I did paint a 3 hole bezel all black and it looked good.A repro is 34.00{w/chrome}no woodgrain.
