Cluster Upgrades
5 Attachment(s)
Thought I'd share for a change, after asking so many questions!
I had to take the instrument cluster out to change out the speedometer, so thought it would be a good time to add a tachometer, and a voltmeter. The tach was a "reproduction", bolt in affair from Classic Parts, with instructions and wiring harness. The voltmeter was a Auto Meter 2319 Auto Gage 2-5/8" 10-16 Volt. While it's not a perfect fit, I think I'll be happy with it. Photos 1&2 show the front and back of the voltmeter, which has a 2-5/8" face. I believe the can is 2-1/4" diameter. Photo 3 shows my "hacksaw" modification to the original backing plate where I installed the Voltmeter. Photo 4 shows the plate being test fitted Photo 5 shows the empty hole, and the piece of foam I glued to the housing, to keep the gauge from rocking or rattling. |

Photo 6 shows the Voltmeter fitted with a
plastic shroud I cut out from a coffee can lid. Thought it would help keep any "back light" from shining around the gauge. Photo 7 shows the Voltmeter installed. Photo 8 shows the Voltmeter wired up, along with the installed Tachometer. Photo 9 shows the front of the finished cluster, with the lights all on..... hard to tell though, as I didn't think to shut off the flash on the camera, lol. I benched tested the Voltmeter as well. Maybe I'll get to try re-installing the cluster tomorrow....... if Santa Claus doesn't interfer! |
