Thinking of trading for a 70 Blazer
 

Hey guys I'm new here and I've always wanted a 1st gen Blazer to fix up. I recently found one near me(Maine) and I'm considering taking it. I want to know what you guys think is fair value for it. It has a crate 350 in it with 6000 miles. It's a 4 speed manual transmission. The 4x4 works and the truck fires up and seems to run well. The body is straight and the floors are good. It has a pin hole rust spot on the passenger side rocker panel. The odometer reads 82,000 miles. The truck needs restoration inside. The seats and carpet are junk. I will leave a link to the Craigslist ad. Will ad some pics when I get home to my laptop. Just want some opinions. Thanks

looks like a solid truck and unabused! if its in as good as condition as it looks and you say its easily worth that price. score!

Welcome to the board. It looks like a solid truck but the photos are small and blurry. If you can get better pictures, that would help us.

The gearing isn't stock and is probably a bit overkill for those tires. If you're planning on going with bigger tires, it will be nice to have those already in there.

The body is one of the main things to consider. Any rust you can see probably has near double hidden. The truck looks like it's in primer, so I'd check for signs of bondo covering rust.

Lift the carpet (if any) - check the A, B & C pillars and unbolt the top and lift it to see if there is any rust in the windshield frame. Under the truck, behind the rocker panels are the torsion boxes (sometimes called rocker boxes). These are the structure for the truck when the top is off. If they are rusted, it is a big job to fix but reproduction parts are now available.

Thanks guys! I will look at the rocker boxes and the other places. I am def planning on bigger tires, and new rims. The truck is actually painted flat black but I'm going to have it re painted factory blue( the interior is blue)On a side note another Craigslist ad in my area is selling a 69 and 72 Blazer for 1500 for the pair and says it is complete between the two. They are both the same blue as the one I am picking up and looks like they have a lot of parts I could use. Rear bumper, factory roll bar, blue bucket seats etc...

I've read 31's at most, but don't have a 4x4 myself. Good luck with the buy/trade!

The guy told me the rocker boxes have been removed. How big of a job is to put them in?

friend of mine had 33's on his stock one but you could not turn lock to lock without rubbing. Put 31's on and it was no problem

Id' be more worried about why they were removed? Without the rocker boxes, I'd check the body mounts to see how worn they are. Check around the doors for signs of rubbing and check the top for cracks.

I believe there is a tread on the board where someone replaced their boxes. Do a search for either rocker boxes or torsion boxe.

33's fit fine on mine without a lift. Use a wheel with as much offset as you can get away with. Works great on mine on and off road.

You could offer 4500 for it whats the worse that can happen he says no. Post some pics or a link to the other two Blazers.

I believe the 4:11 gears are stock for a 4 speed Blazer. My Jimmy with 4 speed also has 4:11s.

I checked it out today. It needs quite a bit of work so I don't think I'm going to get it. I have a 99 Harley softail custom if you guys know anybody interested in a trade for a decent 1969-72 K5. Needs to be a daily driver. Thanks for all the responses!
