Bed to frame cross seals

I have a 63 short step, my bed is primed with body work done and disassembled. My bed cross seals are kinda rough. I'm thinking of replacing them with a subframe out of square tubing, and have one solid frame to mount the bed to. Have any of yal done this? I know I can buy new ones but I don't wanna do that. So wat have yal done with your steppers? Thanks!

Mine were rough too mostly tops rusted out. Sandblasted them went to lowes and got some 3/4 or 1 inch flat steel (dont remember width) and spot welded them in to inside top and redrilled my holes and painted them with POR 15 Came out good for me!
