Steering Column or Trans issues?

When the truck is cold, I have issues shifting into park. From what I understand when shifting into park, the column slides towards the driver slightly then moves into place. When it's cold, it doesn't. I think it's a lubrication issue with the column and praying it's not the trans. Is there a way to re-grease the column? Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks,

I couldn't get out of the park position in my truck. I sprayed wd-40 where the shifter goes into the column. I never had a problem since. From the park position, I pull the shifter towards me then down into the gears if that's what you mean.

Yes, that's it, it works the same way going into Park. So you sprayed on the right side where the shifter hinges?

Thanks,

It is easy & best to drive ut the pin that holds the lever in. Pull the lever out & you can spray around inside. Put the lever back in & tap the pin back. If this doesnt do it spray on the lower part of the columbn where the lever comes out that goes to the trans.

I just sprayed in the column where the shifter attaches to it and pivots. I also sprayed all the linkages from the column to the transmission.

Be sure and place something on the bottom of the column to protect the carpet if you spray or lube it heavy.

On my 69 I actually had to remove the column and I wound up taking chunks of dried up old grease and relubed it. These hot Texas summers can dry even grease.

Had the same thing on my 66 Impala. Just sprayed all the linkage workings with WD and never looked back. lol Works real smooth since.

It worked great guys, I took the easy route and just sprayed everything without taking it apart. I feel stupid for fighting with this for a year and not doing anything about it.

Thanks again and cheers,

I installed a new printed circuit on my '70 Blazer this afternoon, put everything back together and ****, my whole shift and steering column seem to rotate and shift. I can simply pull the column shifter to the right, my whole steering column will rotate and shift... I have no idea what can possibly be broken or misaligned... any help or ideas. where is the catch to stop the column from rotating?

There is a slot on the top of the column tube that lines up with a protrusion on the column bracket. That should keep it from rotating.
