Original Bench Seat
Can someone shed light on the rod that goes between the release handle and the pass side track on a 68 bench seat ? mine is missing and I would like to get mine working right. What can i use to replace the thing that allows both tracks to move together when you want to adjust the seat back and forth.....thanks

Re: Original Bench Seat
From what I've seen, by 1972 they were using wire instead of the rod. You'll want high strength wire.

Re: Original Bench Seat
Just reuphplstered my 72, it is a length of stiff wire with a hook on each end and a retainer clip.Mine broke off so when i redid the seat I replaced it with a length of cable about 1/16 in diameter adn used a couple of extra hog rings for guides.

what kind of wire do you look for? thanks

Re: Original Bench Seat
Something with high tensile strength, not mechanics wire (soft). Look for tempered wire such as music wire. Also maybe just use a small cable like mentioned above.

Re: Original Bench Seat
I got a piece of 1/8" round stock from the hardware store, bent hooks on both ends, but left room to incorporate a turnbuckle into it so I could maintain just a little tension. This made the lever pull positive, and stopped any potential for rattles. After all of that, I put the seat in the full back position and haven't had any reason to move it since.
