f body alt
Will be installing a 5.3 in my 68. And only gonna have water pump and alt. I was wanting to put alt in f body location. You guys think there will be enough room without hitting the frame?

Re: f body alt
Check in the picture thread pinned to the top of this section. There are a few members running the F-body stuff.

Re: f body alt
just in case you didn't know to run the f body alternator with a 5.3L block you need to drill/tap a mounting boss, and will only be using 2 of 3 bolts.

Re: f body alt
I am aware of the hole I'm just concerned about frame clearance

Re: f body alt
You will also have to use an F body balancer. There should be enough room depending on where you put the engine, but since A/C compressors usually fit with n o problem on the left, an alternator should fit on the right, there's alot of room in trucks.

Re: f body alt
I have a f body balancer. Can I use the truck water pump?
|
Re: f body alt
Not with the F body balancer and alternator, the belt spacing is different. I have seen people press an F body waterpump pulley on a truck waterpump, but it's not easy.

Re: f body alt
Thinking about making s spacer for the alt bracket to match the truck balancer and water pump. What you think?

Re: f body alt
Looks to be about 1/2 " difference. I have seen 1/2" waterpump spacers so iwould think if I'm mo Inge my alt I would need that much of a spacer. Anyone confirm?
