hey all, newbie with a question. what bedliner ?

hey all, workin on a 85 silverado 4x4, replaced the 305 and 700r4 with 454 and turbo 400hd. just got the paint on the cab and about to do the bed and want to know what spray-in bedliner everyone likes ? i've seen some rhino-liner beds that looked pretty rough and i really don't care for it. i've check on some Line-X bedliner that look really good but they want $475 to do my short box. anyone got picks of thier beds with spray-in liners ?
my project :

I plan on doing it myself. lots of $$ for someone else to do it or just half that for the materials and my time. I plan on using the "herculiner" from O'Riellys. They have a kit for 89$ that has all of the stuff required + a gallon of the bedliner. The box says it will do a 6 foot bed so that's good for your application. I have a long bed so I have to purchase 2 more quarts.

Nice build. Nothing wrong with letting the pros spray it for you if you are a perfectionist on the details. If you are going to DIY I second the hurculiner. Cheers

Line-x is thicker then rhino liner is why it looks better,Most rhino liners i have seen had a run or two in it and looked kinda ugly.I know its not cheap but it will last a long time.My uncles 02 gmc got line-x when he bought it new its stood up to a roofer since day one and still looks good today. The only tip i can give you is pre sand the bed yourself sometimes the guys doing it miss a spot in a hurry,And almost ask them to remove your bed bolts before spraying if not good luck getting them out later lol.

i have the bed sand blasted to raw metal so it should stick. i hate to spend the bucks but line-x is the best looking stuff i've seen plus it's sprayed on hot and is ready to go in very short time.

don't spray line it the value will drop as you will never be able to get it off after it fades and gets scared up..just paint the bed and when it gets bad looking with scratches if you actually use it paint it again..simple.

my op on the spray in liners anyway.

I have had trucks with Linex and my only complaint is that diesel will stain them if you spill it on them I am going to Linex my Crew Cab some day and you can peal them out. Not easy but can be done they peeled my BIL's bed caps to redo them

I used a quart can of Rustoleum and brushed it on (approx $6).

I touch it up as required, and figured I can redo it nearly a hundred times for what the Linex or Rhino liner would cost.

And here are the previously promised pictures of the inside of the box. I used Rustoleum, and I let my daughter paint it while I worked on the doors (which saved me a couple days). Total cost for the box = $6.78.

Line-X! But i could be a little biased here lol. Don't forget it has a lifetime warranty if it needs repair...

I like Road Warrior, come in a kit, very easy to use and still looks good after 5 years.

You might consider a Bedrug if you plan to put a tonneau over the bed. If you found a used one it would not cause much, and you can move it from truck to truck. Rhinoliner shows stains also.

I don't have any pics, but the Rustoleum bedliner goes through a cheapo Harbor Freight paint gun pretty easily and looks nice. It can be easily touched up with a rattle can. A month a go I painted my neighbors 76 Jeep (completely) with it.....he can't go anywhere now without getting stopped and asked how to do it.

I did the DIY kit from Southern Polyurethanes. Including the gun to spray it, total cost was ~$175 if I remember correctly. Turned out really good, and IMO looks better than my dad's line-x bed.

I have Line-x in my 02 Silverado & I love it. It's been able to handle hauling brick, wood, concrete blocks, etc... The only downside was the price to get it done. I spent $505.
I used Herculiner on the ramp door of my enclosed cargo / car trailer & it seems to be holding up great, but it doesn't see the stuff the bed of my truck sees.

Here's a pic of the Jeep. I laid down the first coat and the owner took over. Pretty easy do spray. This is a pretty good example of how it turns out.

Re: hey all, newbie with a question. what bedliner ?

You should go to Autozone and get a rattle can of it and spray a little. The glare is from the AZ sun.....it's kind of matte black. The grit in it is pretty fine. It comes out of a paint gun a little more coarse than what you get in the rattle can.

they do get duller with time, but you should remember thickness also, that $140 gallon might cover your bed, but line-x puts about 5 gallons in a bed!

My opinion also. Though I have used the rubber pad Keith Seymore had in the bed, and liked it. Then again, I'm more of a "throw a sheet of plywood in the bed" kind of guy.
