Rear-view mirror location on a 69 K20 Custom Camper

I have a 69 K20 Custom Camper and the rear-view mirror has decided it doesn't want to stay on the windshield any longer...bought too many of the adhesive kits from Napa to count. I also have a 69 K20 Suburban, but the rear-view mirror for it is mounted above the windshield. Can anyone explain the 2 mounting locations and any tricks to get the mirror to actually stay on the windshield? Any pics would be helpful as well, as I beginning to wonder if the mirror is supposed to be on the windshield.

Thanks!
Josh

72 was the first year it was on the windshield.

Rear view mirrors were an option on 69s... at least on the 3/4 tons. I'm not sure about 1/2 tons. The optional mirror was on an arm screwed to the roof above the windshield center.

Would that option show up in the option list on the glove-box door? I'd prefer to not add something that can't be easily removed. Thanks for the replies!

I'm not sure. My early 69 CST/20 did not have the mirror. I bought the truck new and asked the dealer why it didn't have one. I was told it was an option. A few years later I added a 72 mirror to the windshield and prefer it over the original style mirror. I also didn't have to drill holes for one. I'm now restoring the truck and found a decent mirror in a junkyard. However, I probably won't use it since it's not on the SPID. The mirror MAY have been standard later in the model year. I also had a couple adhesion problems with the 72 mirror. It's now been on for about 40 years.
