1983 crew cab diesel

I've never owned a diesel but I've thought about it in the past for the better mileage and more torque and all that. But I really want a crew cab and I found an 83 model on craigslist and wanted y'all tell me what you think. being used to gasoline vehicles, what can i expect as far as cost to operate and stuff like that? Are these diesels good and dependable enough compared to my current TBI setup? I do have pretty good mechanical skills over all but I just never have touched a diesel motor for repairs or maintenance at all.. :smoke:

That seems like a fair price for one. Go for it!

Not sure about the mileage in a crew cab dually, but I know most owners with 6.2's enjoy 18+ mpg's. I guess it also depends on whether you have overdrive or not and how heavy your foot is.

As far as maintenance, they are relatively maintenance free: no plugs, wires, coils, dist. caps or rotors to fail, just change your oil and your fuel filters often. If a water separator isn't installed in the fuel system, I would install one. Racor makes a great combination filter/separator, which is what I run inline before my stock filter.
