Things that make you go "What the Heck!?" this winter.
Yesterday I was driving to work and came up on a residential area called 3 lakes. The front lake is near the high way. When I went by I noticed what I thought was an American Bald eagle. I had to turn around to be sure. Sure enough it was. He or she was pecking through the ice and feeding. I'm surprised the bodies of water here have any ice on them at all. It's been in the mid to high 50's here lately. It was super windy so sorry for the bad pics.

Yep, I wasn't seeing things, it was! I got to the shop, ran in and grabbed the camera. It was a decent day out but I'm betting mid 30's. I highly doubt it was a warm ride with how the wind was blowing for the occupants in the balloon. Again, sorry for the bad pics, they were landing when I started taking pics. You can barely see the balloon in the pics. It's above the tree line behind the morton building next to the 2 bigger trees off in the distance. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...r/DSC00458.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...r/DSC00457.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...r/DSC00456.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...r/DSC00459.jpg |
Re: Things that make you go "What the Heck!?" this winter.
It's been an odd winter for us,too. Motorcycles all over the pace this past weekend. The only snow we had was before the leaves turned color...so far. Yesterday I passed a '50 Ford Tudor tail dragger going the opposite way and today a super sweet (I mean top shelf) Advance Design shortbed cruised by my house.I've seen more classic cars this winter than I can ever recall...no salt!

yesterday we had the shop doors open at work since it was calm and 57* out. today we got to work and it was blowing crazy with freezing drizzle which later turned to snow.

Sounds about the same here. No freezing drizzle though. Yesterday I worked in my shop in the morning and had the doors open. Today I could have too but that wind was a bit brisk!

Re: Things that make you go "What the Heck!?" this winter.
I saw the big dip down to the gulf on the weather map. Well,it isn't very cold here YET but that wind is sure pushing it our way. Yesterday about 60* and woke up to a dusting of snow. 15-25 mph winds with 40mph gusts today...much colder by tomorrow.

Hey Ryan, cool pics. Thought I'd share one with you. This is a perfectly round ice circle that formed in a back eddy on the Salmon river. It's about 100 feet across (estimate). The pic was taken by my sister a few years ago. I've never seen one of these before, or since.
