58x 4.8, 5.3 ??????

Guys, I am about to purchase a 2007 Silverado Classic. I am getting a heck of a deal on the truck but the down side is, it has a 4.8 with a lot of miles. For no other good reason, I know I am going to want to go in that motor and replace the crank to magically make it a 5.3. Here's my question, if I find a pre-2007 5.3 crank and rods, can I just take the reluctor ring(s) of of the 2007 4.8 engine and put it on the pre 2007 5.3 crank. This will give me a good reason to rebuild the engine anyways.

Also, it this is successfully done, with the engine cubic inches equating to 5.3, would a tune be necessary of just beneficial?

I think the pistons will also need to be changed, that is what I hear tells the difference in the 4.8/5.3 motors not the crank, I could be wrong about the crank tho.

I just did this swap and the pistons rods and crank will need to be changed. The 5.3 crank should already have the relutor on it, if not an 07 5.3 will be needed and put on with a special tool or it won't run right or may not run at all. Not sure when the tooth count change but early and late 5.3 engine used different counts.

A 07 Silverado Classic will be 24X. The body style dictates if you have 24X or 58X

Thanks for the information guys. I definately learned something. Clinebarger, I have a completely rebuilt 2005 LQ9 with a GM hot cam. I should be able to drop that 6.0 in, and with a tune I should be good to go, right?
