Windshield trim

Whats the secret to get the stainless trim back into a new windshield weatherstrip? 1972 chevy C-10

I believe it has to be in the rubber when the windshield is put in. That being said, I had 2 windshield guys try to put my reproduction trim in the rubber and they couldnt get it to work. I had to go with just the standard rubber.

I threw my original rubber out not knowing I would have this trouble. Does anyone know if the after market trim fits better in the aftermarket rubber? I wish I would have kept the original rubber.
