Difference between C and K series cabs

I have a 71 K20 (factory air/ 4X4) and a C10 (no air). Besides the floor hump, what is the difference in these cabs? How hard will it be for me to cut the hump out of the C10, add the high hump form the K20, and put this on my truck?

Has anyone had experience doing this and do I just need to find myself a K series cab and be done with it?

If i remember correctly, 67-70 cabs are a little different than 71/72 cabs, when it comes to a few of the holes in the firewall. I believe the throttle cable is different on the 71/72's. I put a 69 2wd cab on my 72 4x4 frame and everything is pretty much the same. Be careful when cutting the low hump out, as not to cut too much. Lay the 4x4 hump on the low one, and spray paint the outline of it so you know where to cut.

Re: Difference between C and K series cabs

There is no difference between K and C series cabs in any given year. C series big blocks and 4spds use the same cab as K series. There is already the impression for the high hump in the low hump floor. Unbolt the hump and lay it on the low hump floor and you will see.

If they are both 71's, the only difference would be the firewall. The cutouts for heater/ac boxes are different for ac than those found on non ac. High and low humps were found on any year and were based mainly on engine/transmission combinations. 71 and 72 cabs had suspended gas pedals with a cable to the carb. Earlier cabs had gas pedals that snapped onto two studs on the floor and the linkage to the carb was rods. 71 an 72 had a vent in the driver's side rear door jamb. Earlier ones did not. 67 and I think 68 also had handles for the emergency brake while later cabs had pedals. 71 and earlier rear view mirrors were mounted to the windshield frame. 72's were glued to the windshield. I probably missed something.

You will only need to put in a high hump if you have a 4 speed in your 4x4...if your running an automatic then you can just switch cabs and leave the low hump in.

I thought only 72's had the door jamb vent? My 71 doesn't have one.

I may be incorrect on the 71's having the vent in the jamb. Maybe Randy (TEEITUP) or Mel will know for sure.

Re: Difference between C and K series cabs

I have only ever known of '72s having the jamb vent. If a '71 had a jamb vent then it also had a windshield mount rear view mirror because that's how GM made them. Either way, that and all other cab differences don't pertain to the question of differences between C and K cabs...which is what was asked. The simple answer is there are no differences. The person asking the question already knows there are high hump and low hump configurations. He has one of each.

We've got a '71 C5500 and 6500 with the vent and raised area for the mirror.

Ok,well I believe you. Just something I never saw in the thousands of trucks I've looked at. Still, none of this has anything to do with c and K cab differences because there are none.
