68 Chevelle black betty
 

Im gonna go ahead and start a thread for my 68 chevelle ss car that has come a long way since I pulled it out of a barn in in 2005

so this is what it comes down to a short while after i pulled it out
it had a 396 out of a 69 chevelle 350 hp motor and 702 bbc heads that are oval port with small chambers and a single plane intake

turbo 400 annd 308 gears
was a butternut yellow car with black top and black bucket seat interior with console

and some of the work i did 4 years ago before the tear down yes i was 17 years old :)

ok and the old front clip not bad but not as nice as the new fenders thats for sure and im not sure why i put a 69 grill in it

then there was tear down two to make sure i do the car right and with it being a 37000 mile car i believe it needs it so i thought hey why not paint it black its super straight not needing any pans just some work around the windows and the rear patch panels

but the real cool stuff is whats to come especially the motor :) and i do have the matching numbers block to the car but im gonna have fun with it and im not planing on selling it

ok this is where shes at now and i have a ton of new parts for this one including 15x8 rallies with 237/70/15 tires that are redlines
all new chrome and a ton of goodies from big tonys!!!!!!!

and some body work :) and ive never seen anyone braze to repair metal ive hear of lead too but not brazing but hey it works
gonna weld up the quarters and seal them up

ok and now test fit of the new metal for the front clip and sand blasting around the windows

and the new motor out of a drag car thats gonna go in the chevelle with some vintage aluminum heads and 163 intake so snowflake heads and intake so its like the copo chevelles the motor has forged pistons huge domes the bring it to 11.5-1 compression and forged rods and crank, its 65 396 block bored .60 over and double roller timing set with a comp cam hi tech solid cam, 638/631 270/276 @.50 and 108 lsa so its super nasty about like my 68 drag car

and that means ill have to switch the gears out of my camaro 12 bolt with the 3.31 posi and put the 3.08s in it and put under my 68 camaro

and prob a 3500 rpm stall to back it up

the heads :)

so the plan is pretty simple black car red ss stripe and red lines on 15x8 rallies with beauty rings and centers

then a super nasty motor th400 and 3.31 12 bolt
just waiting to get my heads back from the machine shop friday and I will have the motor together very soon

and the car will be in primer this weekend with the front window fixed and the driver quarter/drop off/ wheel well

nice i know i hope i get paint on this one before next month... its gonna be something different pretty much all old school and hi performance down to the correct 375 hp pistons well maybe not the cam but everything else and the cool thing is how nice it is all the doors shut like new too bad mud got down in the quarters and ate it up but she will be done soon :) getting the heads friday

ok so i went crazy and got the motor ready to bolt down in the car
and does it look beautiful i love how it looks and the fact it looks stock

what does everyone else think? :)

btw i went with stainless valves 2.25intake 1.88 exhaust
and put the correct springs for the cam i have

and it was all glass beaded and looks very nice and i do believe i can run the stamp steel valve covers without a problem which makes me very happy

and also someone has done a lot of porting on these heads so i hope she flows well and they did come off a old drag car my friend had

also i have lunati roller rockers :)

and the 2.25 valves will fit in a 396 but its a close fit and even with the 375 hp pistons that im running and the 640 lift solid cam

i have also heard the gm intakes are very nice pieces and flow well
well i hope so cause the heads have been opened up aka bigger valves and porting

and i messed up its a 4 bolt hi perf block with 68 dated heads.... not sure what its for cause i checked the deck and its never been shaved but never been stamped? say odd ball?

That should move it along nicely! 68 is my favorite year of Chevelle hands down. Good luck with your project. Joseph
