Let's see the chop tops!

Looked but didn't find any threads about chop tops so I thought to start one.

If you type "chopped top" into the Google search box at the top of the page, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" then click on the "Google" button you will find some threads on it. You will have to do some looking as this will cover all years.... I'm headed out to the shop so I don't have time to look for you, but this will get you headed in the right direction.

I am a fan of chop tops but only if they are mild and the posts are not leaned back.

Here is one I got with a bunch of parts I bought. Too much chop (5 in.) and the posts are leaned back. I sold it a while back for $250.

Re: Let's see the chop tops!

Nobody asked for my opinion but I'm going to give it. The ONLY way these look even remotely good is if a guy is willing to chop almost nothing off. That first pic is just about perfect. The others are way too much and totally change the look of the truck. It does not look proportionate. Most guys don't want the work for just one or two inches off and that is when they really look killer.

If you do it, just be brave enough to not do too much. I'd HIGHLY recommend to have someone like Longhair or someone else photochop it. It's a great tool to let you see the end result before you start cutting.

Look at the difference between the blue and red truck. He threw a rake in that blue one and it looks pretty sick! Giving you the head room right where you need it.

Re: Let's see the chop tops!

When I chop mine hopefully this upcoming summer I will lean the post back about 1 1/2 inches, and just rake the rear of the roof forward to give it a bit of downward slope, a lot like the blue one.

The Chop I posted, which I originally found posted by member: ctpchevy is the only one that I have any taste for. IMO a 2 in chop looks great.

Agree, you have to look twice even notice it's chopped. :metal:

Just my opinion these trucks do not look good with chopped tops, let the bashing begin!

Actually, let's not let the bashing begin so the thread can stay open ;)

I am not a fan of chopping in most instances but like xxl's truck and the one 69 gmc posted since they're subtle

I'm not a fan of anything newer than the mid 50's chopped (with a few expections of course) but that first truck posted is sexy.

I had totally forgotten about this truck. I wonder if it ever got finished, I dont think he comes around the board anymore. I also loved what he did with the hood.

I agree. The rake with the pillars leaning way back sets the whole thing off...

Looks like 3 deuces poking through with the old school cleaners.

I like Chip Foose's stance in this area. He loves to make subtle changing to where you almost have to look twice to tell if something has been altered. That means it's flowing really well. These would look good (I think) if someone did a hefty chop and then followed up with about a 4" channel right out of the center of the body, just above the fenderwells. I did this messing with my buddy's stepper.

If you look closely at the pic, his house and garage got channeled too! lol

I've seen a few slammed trucks that remind me of Ford tall-T's, windows seem a bit large.
