power steering Question help??
Hey guys,
Today after work I noticed a small puddle of fluid under my truck, and saw that my power sterring plug popped off. My truck has a 04 lq4 with a 4L80E I am using the power steering from the 04 motor which is equiped with the hydro booster brakes. ( I am using 1972 brake booster for now) I plugged the extra line. My question...Do I have to use a vented power steering cap, so it doesnt pop the plug again?? Thanks in advance for anyones input. :metal: |
Re: power steering Question help??
So you are going to run hydroboost, but right now you just have the extra line on the pump capped off? Doesn't seem like an issue.
I just stuck a 12mm in the stub of hose and clamped it into place. This includes 1500+ mile road trips and dyno pulls, hasn't seemed to move. Im running the exact same engine and trans combo basically, and I use a 72 front suspension and steering box, so my setup should be as close to yours as possible. |
Re: power steering Question help??
Yes thats right. Thanks BR3W City I guess I must have forgotten the damn clamp. :banghead:
One more question.. I need a new gas cap and my truck's gas tank has the carbon vented stuff on the passengers side running up the rear pillar of the cab. I went to the local parts store to buy a new cap and saw they offer non or equiped EEC gas cap. Since I am running the LS motor does it matter which gas cap I use? They have to order the EEC style cap like the one I need. :m6: |
Re: power steering Question help??
They do build up some pressure, so a hose clamp on the plug should be the answer. As for the gas cap, get the one that fits your tank, the eec and non eec have two different necks.

Re: power steering Question help??
I do not have a vented cap (as far as i know). I T-d the line in and ran the lines to an LT1 PS res I had laying around. No issues with mine.
Can see it in the lower section of this pic next to windshield washer fluid http://www.herronperformance.com/ass...side_cover.jpg BUT, even with no issues, I want to clean up that area so when I do a cam swap I will go to a regular pump with attached reseviour, that will remove some hoses and possibliyt of leaks. |
